The Lies Of The Vance Estate

Arthur: A state foster database record from twenty years ago won't hold up against my legal team!

Clara: When I turned eighteen, the state required a full genetic swab to enter the national registry for missing persons. My DNA has been sitting in the Texas Department of Public Safety database for four years, waiting for a match.

Eleanor: I submitted my DNA sample to that exact same database ten years ago when I couldn't stop dreaming about my lost baby!

Ethan: Wait... Mother, did you really submit your DNA to the missing children's network?

Eleanor: Yes! Deep in my heart, I never believed she died in that hospital! I felt like a piece of my soul was missing! Every year on her birthday, I prayed that somewhere out there, my daughter was still breathing!

Arthur: You're delusional, Eleanor! You've been seeing grief counselors for twenty years!

Ethan: I am pulling up the Texas DPS portal on my phone right now. Mother, give me your citizen identification pin.

Eleanor: It's 0419. Check the familial match tab, Ethan! Check it right now!

Ethan rapidly tapped the screen of his smartphone as Arthur tried to back away toward the side service doors of the ballroom.

Ethan: Don't move an inch, Arthur! Security, grab his arms!

The two large guards grabbed Arthur by his elbows, pinning his arms behind his back despite his furious struggling.

Arthur: Let go of me! This is illegal restraint! I'll have your security licenses revoked by midnight!

Ethan: It's here... oh my God. It's a ninety-nine point nine percent maternal DNA match. Case file number 8821. Infant Evelyn Vance, reported missing under suspicious circumstances in 2004.

The entire ballroom gasped once again. Several guests whipped out their smartphones, filming the entire confrontation.

Clara: It's true... I'm really your daughter.

Eleanor: My baby... my sweet, beautiful girl!

Eleanor pulled Clara into a fierce, tight embrace, weeping against her shoulder. Clara wrapped her arms around Eleanor, tears falling fast down her own cheeks as she felt the warm hug of her biological mother for the very first time in her life.

Clara: All my life... I wondered why nobody came looking for me.

Eleanor: I looked every single day in my heart, my darling! I was lied to by the man I trusted with my family's life!

Ethan: Arthur... you didn't just steal from a trust fund. You stole my sister from my family. You sat at our Thanksgiving dinner table every year, watching my mother cry over Evelyn's empty bedroom!

Arthur: I did what had to be done for the Vance family legacy! You wouldn't be standing in this luxury ballroom today if I hadn't kept the estate intact!

Ethan: You didn't do it for the legacy! You did it so you could draw a two-million-dollar salary as CFO while my mother lived in constant grief!

Arthur: So what if I did?! I built Vance Enterprises into an empire!

Eleanor: You built an empire on the tears of a grieving mother and an abandoned orphan! But your empire ends tonight, Arthur!

Arthur: You can't strip me of my shares! The board of directors backs me three to one!

Clara: Not anymore. If my father's original will gives seventy percent of the voting shares to his surviving daughter, then I am the majority shareholder of Vance Enterprises as of this exact second.

Arthur: You don't know the first thing about running a corporation, you uneducated girl!

Clara: I graduated top of my class with a degree in corporate finance from the University of Texas while working two jobs to pay my rent. I know exactly how to fire a corrupt CFO.
