Marcus: Buckle your seatbelt tight, Lily. We're going to stop by the ice cream parlor before we head home.
Lily: Can I get two scoops of strawberry with extra sprinkles, Daddy?
Marcus: You can get three scoops if you want, sweetheart.
Marcus started the engine of his sleek black sedan, pulling out of the church driveway just as two catering vans were pulling in to unload food for a reception that would never happen.
His phone began ringing incessantly on the dashboard display, showing caller ID after caller ID from Vanessa, Eleanor, and various high-profile board members.
Marcus calmly pressed the bluetooth button on his steering wheel, dialing his chief legal counsel, David.
David: Marcus! What on earth is happening at the chapel? My news feed is blowing up with reports that you called off the wedding at the altar!
Marcus: It's true, David. The wedding is completely off.
David: Marcus, are you crazy?! Vanessa's father controls forty percent of the municipal bonds for your downtown housing development!
Marcus: Vanessa and her mother tried to secretly ship Lily off to an overseas residential boarding school in Switzerland behind my back.
Silence filled the phone line for three straight seconds as David digested the news.
David: They... they tried to do what to Lily?
Marcus: They paid a non-refundable registration fee through their family foundation and told my eight-year-old child that I didn't want her in my home anymore.
David: Those absolute monsters... Marcus, I am so sorry. I had no idea they were planning something like that during the prenup negotiations.
Marcus: It's not your fault, David. But I need you to execute Clause 14B of our development contract immediately.
David: Clause 14B? The moral turpitude and family endangerment override clause?
Marcus: Exactly. Execute it right now and freeze all joint venture capital accounts tied to Arthur's bank.
David: If I execute 14B, Arthur's family trust will be forced to forfeit their primary mortgage options, and full controlling interest in the project defaults entirely to your firm.
Marcus: Good. That means they won't have a single leg to stand on when they try to retaliate against us tomorrow.
David: I'm sending the emergency filing to the municipal court clerk right now. They'll have it stamped before five o'clock.
Marcus: Thanks, David. What about the press releases?
David: My public relations team is already drafting a formal statement regarding the cancellation of the wedding. We will highlight the illegal attempt to enroll a minor child without fatherly consent.
Marcus: Make sure Arthur's name is kept clear of the press release. He stood up at the altar and stripped Vanessa of her trust fund access right in front of everyone.
David: Arthur did that? Wow... even her own father couldn't stomach what she did to Lily.
Marcus: He proved he has a shred of integrity left. Vanessa and Eleanor, however, deserve every bit of legal ruin coming their way.
David: Understood, Marcus. Go take care of your daughter. I'll handle the legal fallout from my office.
Marcus hung up the call, glancing into his rearview mirror at Lily, who was swinging her small legs happily in the back seat, holding her favorite stuffed bear.
Lily: Daddy, is Vanessa ever going to come back to our house to pack her clothes?
Marcus: I'll have security pack up all her belongings and ship them to her mother's apartment by tonight, baby. She will never step foot on our property again.
Lily: Good. I didn't like the way she looked at Mommy's old piano in the living room.
Marcus: Nobody is ever touching your mother's piano, Lily. That stays right where it is, forever.
