Three days after the incident at the pool, Arthur stood inside his late father's private library on the second floor of the mansion. The room was lined with dark oak bookshelves and quiet history. Sarah stood beside him while Toby played safely downstairs with his new legal guardian nanny.
Arthur walked over to the oil painting of his father hanging above the marble fireplace, swinging the heavy frame open to reveal a digital wall safe.
Sarah: What are you looking for, Arthur?
Arthur: My father left a confidential codicil in his master trust documents. He told me before he passed away that if Evelyn ever showed her true nature, this envelope would end her power forever.
Arthur typed in the six-digit code, and the heavy steel door clicked open. He reached inside, pulling out a thick manila envelope sealed with red wax.
Sarah: What's inside it?
Arthur: The original family trust agreement from twenty years ago.
Arthur broke the seal and pulled out several pages of legal parchment, scanning down to the final clause signed by his father's estate attorney.
Arthur: Look at clause fourteen, Sarah. 'In the event that Evelyn Sterling engages in acts of moral turpitude, violence, or legal harm against any direct heir, her monthly stipend of fifty thousand dollars is instantly revoked, and all remaining family assets pass exclusively to Arthur Sterling and his children.'
Sarah: She was living off that monthly stipend her entire life...
Arthur: She thought she owned this estate, but she was merely a conditional beneficiary. By striking Toby, she legally disinherited herself completely.
Sarah: She lost everything in five minutes because of her own cruelty.
Arthur: Cruelty always collects its debt in the end, Sarah.
Arthur placed the documents safely in his leather briefcase, ready to deliver them directly to his family's trust attorneys in downtown Palm Beach.
