Sarah: Come here, Toby. Let's cover you with a dry blanket inside.
Toby: Is Grandma going away, Mommy?
Sarah: Yes, sweetie. Grandma is going somewhere where she can never hurt you again.
Within seven minutes, the sharp wail of police sirens echoed down the long private driveway of the Sterling estate. Two white-and-blue patrol cruisers pulled up directly onto the manicured lawn beside the pool patio, followed closely by a red paramedic truck.
Officer Miller and his partner stepped out, their hands resting near their belts as they approached the scene.
Officer Miller: Mr. Sterling? We received the emergency dispatch for a child assault.
Arthur: Officer Miller, thank you for arriving so quickly. That woman on the floor is Evelyn Sterling.
Evelyn: Officers, thank God you're here! My son has suffered a psychotic break! He shoved me onto the concrete and broke my hip!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, stay where you are for a moment. Mr. Sterling, what happened here?
Arthur: My mother struck my six-year-old son across the shoulder, pushed him into the deep end of the pool knowing he cannot swim, and sat on a chair while he struggled underwater.
Evelyn: It was a swimming lesson! I am his grandmother!
Sarah: She watched him submerge three times without making a move to help him, Officer! I had to dive in with my clothes on to drag him out!
Officer Miller: Do you have video evidence of this, sir?
Arthur: I have high-definition video with full audio recording saved on my phone. Here, watch the last three minutes.
Arthur handed his phone to Officer Miller. The officer's face turned completely grim as he watched the clear footage of Evelyn striking Toby, shoving him into the water, and casually sipping her drink while the boy screamed for his mother.
Officer Miller: Jesus Christ... Partner, get the cuffs out.
Evelyn: WHAT?! NO! YOU CAN'T ARREST ME! DO YOU KNOW WHO MY FAMILY IS?!
Officer Miller: Evelyn Sterling, you are under arrest for felony child abuse, attempted murder, and endangerment of a minor.
Evelyn: ARTHUR! TELL THEM TO STOP! SARAH, PLEASE! TALK TO HIM!
The second officer grabbed Evelyn's thin wrists, pulling them firmly behind her back. The loud, metallic click of handcuffs echoed across the luxury patio, cutting through her desperate shrieks.
Evelyn: YOU UNGRATEFUL BRAT! I BROUGHT YOU INTO THIS WORLD!
Arthur: And now the law is taking you out of my world.
The officers lifted Evelyn to her feet and escorted her across the lawn toward the back seat of the patrol car, her silk robe dragging through the dirt as she kicked and screamed all the way.
The paramedics carefully checked Toby's lungs and oxygen levels on a small stretcher, wrapping him in a warm yellow thermal blanket.
Paramedic: His lungs are clear, Mr. Sterling. He swallowed some water and suffered minor bruising on his shoulder from the blow, but he's going to be completely fine.
Arthur: Thank you, Doctor. Thank you so much.
Arthur wrapped his arms around Sarah and Toby, holding them both tight against his chest as the police cars drove away with their lights flashing through the palm trees.
