The Lawyer's Office

When My Stepmother Cut My Pearls I Found Truth

Jack drove fast through the bright afternoon traffic of Dallas.

Victoria looked out the side window, her heart beating fast.

"Where are we going right now, Jack?" Victoria asked.

"We are going to see your father's personal divorce lawyer," Jack replied.

He turned the truck onto a busy downtown city street.

They pulled up in front of a tall glass skyscraper.

Jack parked the truck and helped Victoria out safely.

They ran inside the air-conditioned lobby toward the elevator.

Minutes later, they sat in a quiet corporate office.

An older attorney named Mr. Vance sat behind a big desk.

Victoria spread the stolen papers out across the clear glass.

Mr. Vance put on his reading glasses and looked down.

He read through the bank records line by line carefully.

"This evidence shows clear financial fraud," Mr. Vance said slowly.

"Your stepmother diverted three million dollars from your father."

Victoria squeezed her hands together in her lap nervously.

"Can she take away my inheritance with those fake papers?" Victoria asked.

Mr. Vance shook his head back and forth with confidence.

"These signed documents prove she forged your father's signature," he said.

"We can file an emergency injunction with the city court today."

Victoria felt a huge wave of relief wash over her body.

"Will the police arrest her for this?" Jack asked firmly.

"The police will act once the judge signs the order," Vance answered.

Suddenly, the office telephone began to ring out loud.

Mr. Vance answered the desk phone and listened closely.

His calm face turned serious as he heard the news.

"Eleanor is selling the mansion right now," Vance told them.
