The sound of sirens began to echo in the distance, growing louder as the police cars sped up the long, private driveway. Mark walked slowly across the hall and sat down on his knees right beside Clara, staring at his baby girl who was now fast asleep against Clara's shoulder, completely oblivious to the chaos that had just unfolded.
Mark: Effective today, your contract as a temporary nanny is terminated.
Clara: What? Mr. Sterling, please... I thought you understood!
Mark: Let me finish, Clara. I am terminating your temporary contract because I am offering you a permanent position as the head estate manager and primary guardian for my children.
Clara: Estate manager?
Mark: You will have a full salary, complete health coverage, a private guest house on the property, and full legal authority over the household operations. No one will ever disrespect you in this home again.
Chloe: Please say yes, Clara. We need you here. This home hasn't felt safe since Mom passed away, but today you proved you really care about us.
Clara: Chloe... sweetie... of course I say yes. I would never leave you girls.
Outside the tall floor-to-ceiling windows, red and blue lights began to flash across the white walls of the foyer. Two police officers marched up the front steps, leading a handcuffed Victoria back toward their patrol cruiser. She screamed hysterically into the empty air, her fancy red dress rumpled, her heels dragging in the gravel as the officers pushed her into the back seat of the car.
Mark: Look at her. She thought money and status gave her the right to destroy lives. Now she's going to lose her trust funds, her reputation, and her freedom.
Chloe: Justice is finally served.
Mark: Yes, it is. And tomorrow morning, my lawyer will draft a new family trust that ensures Clara is protected as part of this estate's permanent management team.
Clara: I don't need a trust fund, Mr. Sterling. I just want to make sure Lily and Chloe grow up in a home filled with love and safety.
Mark: You've already given us that, Clara. You gave us that the second you caught my daughter in mid-air.
Mark stood up and extended his hand to help Clara to her feet. The bright daylight continued to shine through the tall stained-glass window, illuminating the marble foyer that was no longer a place of terror, but a place where truth had prevailed. Clara pulled baby Lily a little closer to her shoulder, a small, peaceful smile finally breaking through her tears as the police cars drove away into the afternoon sun.
