Victoria: Mark, thank God we made it inside! I saw the whole thing through the terrace window!
Mark: What happened here? Lily! Is she hurt?
Victoria: She isn't hurt because I screamed, but Clara shoved the stroller down the steps! She pushed your daughter, Mark!
Clara: What? No! That is a complete lie! I was down here cleaning the hallway!
Victoria: Don't lie to us, you ungrateful little monster! You knew Mark was considering giving you a full-time contract with health benefits, and you got careless!
Clara: I was nowhere near the top landing! I ran from the kitchen when I heard the wheels rattling!
Mark: Victoria, quiet down for a second. Let me look at my daughter.
Mark rushed over and knelt beside Clara on the marble floor. His hands trembled as he checked Lily's arms and legs. The infant was crying softly, clinging to Clara's shirt with her tiny fingers. Clara did not let go, holding the child protectively against her body as if Victoria might snatch her away.
Mark: She seems unharmed. God, she's shaking, but she's not bleeding.
Victoria: Because she got lucky, Mark! But look at Clara! Look at how guilty she looks! She’s crying because she knows she’s caught!
Clara: I am crying because your stepdaughter almost died! How can you stand there and say such evil things?
Victoria: Because I care about this family! I’ve been trying to tell you for weeks, Mark, this nanny is dangerous. She’s careless, she’s lazy, and now she’s trying to cover up an attempted murder!
Mark: Victoria, stop shouting! We need to call a doctor right now to examine Lily.
Victoria: We need to call the police first! Fire her right now and have her hauled off in handcuffs before she tries to hurt anyone else in this house!
Clara: Mr. Sterling, please listen to me. I have taken care of Lily since the day her mother passed away. I love this child like my own flesh and blood. Why would I ever push her?
Victoria: Because you wanted attention! Or maybe you wanted to play the hero and miscalculated! You're a sick woman, Clara!
Mark: Enough! Both of you! Clara, stand up and give me the baby.
Clara: Mr. Sterling, please, you know my heart. I was downstairs the entire morning.
Mark: I said give me my daughter, Clara. Now.
Clara slowly got to her feet, her legs trembling underneath her. She carefully transferred the baby into Mark's broad arms. The moment Lily left her arms, Clara felt a deep chill sweep through her chest. Victoria stepped closer to Mark, placing a hand on his navy shirt, her face full of false sympathy while her eyes gleamed with triumph.
Victoria: See how she hesitates? She knows she ruined her life today. She wanted your money, Mark. She wanted to file a worker's compensation lawsuit against your estate by claiming the stairs were unsafe!
Clara: A lawsuit? Are you insane? I don't care about money!
Victoria: Shut your mouth! You're a poor, desperate girl who saw an opportunity to squeeze cash out of a grieving billionaire!
Mark: Victoria, is this true? Did you actually see her hands on the stroller handles at the top of the stairs?
Victoria: With my own eyes, Mark! I was walking up the driveway from my morning walk. I looked up at the second-floor window, and I saw her distinctly give that stroller a hard shove!
Clara: I was standing right next to the hall table! Look at my dusting rag on the floor!
Victoria: You dropped that rag after you ran down the back service stairs to fake your rescue! You thought you could trick everyone!
Mark: Clara... if this is true, you will never work in this city again. I will make sure you spend the rest of your life in a state penitentiary.
Clara: I was saving her! I swear on my life, I was saving her!
