Elena stood firmly on the lower floor while holding the crying baby in her safe arms.
The massive front oak doors swung open with a heavy creaking sound.
Arthur Vance stepped inside holding a leather briefcase after returning early from work.
He stopped near the doorway and looked around the foyer in complete confusion.
He saw his new maid on her knees on the floor with his son.
He saw his wife standing at the top of the stairs looking pale and shaking.
"What is going on in here?" Arthur asked, setting his briefcase down on a side table.
Elena stood up quickly and brought the baby closer to his father.
"Sir, you need to hear me right now," Elena said with a firm and shaking voice.
"Your wife held the baby over the balcony rail and let him go!"
Arthur gasped and looked up at Victoria with deep disbelief in his eyes.
Victoria rushed down the grand curved staircase while holding her gold dress up.
"That is a complete lie!" Victoria shouted as her heels clicked fast on the steps.
"I lost my grip because the blanket was slippery!"
"I would never hurt our sweet little boy on purpose!"
Elena shook her head while keeping a firm hand on the baby's small back.
"She did not slip, sir," Elena said clearly.
"I saw her open her hands on purpose."
Arthur turned to his wife with a look of pure fury on his face.
"Is this true, Victoria?" Arthur demanded in a low, dangerous tone.
"You know I love this child more than anything in this world!"
Victoria reached out to grab Arthur's arm, but he pulled back sharply.
"She is trying to destroy our marriage!" Victoria cried out loudly.
"She has been here for one day and she is already making up crazy stories!"
Arthur stepped between Victoria and the maid to protect his son.
"I want answers right now before I call anyone else into this house," Arthur said.
Elena looked directly at Arthur and pointed up toward the ceiling corners.
"Check the security cameras in the hallway, sir," Elena suggested bravely.
Victoria froze instantly when she heard the maid mention the house cameras.
Her eyes darted toward the small black dome lens near the high chandelier.
Arthur noticed his wife's sudden shift in mood and narrowed his eyes.
The air in the room felt thick and cold as everybody waited for the next move.
Arthur pulled out his phone to open the home security app on his screen.
Victoria took a step back toward the stairs with her face losing all color.
The truth was about to come out right in the middle of the quiet foyer.
