The police officers placed heavy steel handcuffs on Victoria's wrists.
She struggled against their grip and screamed angry words at Arthur.
"This is not over yet, Arthur!" Victoria shouted as they moved her.
"You do not know who else was involved in this plan!"
Arthur froze when he heard those sharp words leave her mouth.
He turned around and looked at his elegant stepmother Evelyn.
Evelyn was sitting quietly at the front family table near the cake.
She was holding a glass of wine with pale trembling fingers.
Evelyn had married Arthur's wealthy father four long years ago.
She had introduced Victoria to Arthur at a charity gala last fall.
Arthur walked slowly toward his stepmother with suspicion in his heart.
"Did you know about this, Evelyn?" Arthur asked in a stern voice.
Evelyn set her wine glass down so fast it almost tipped over.
"Of course not, Arthur!" Evelyn lied with a sudden high voice.
"I am just as shocked as you are by this terrible news!"
Sarah walked up behind Arthur with a small brown leather notebook.
She had found the book in the bride's changing room earlier today.
"Sir, this was inside Victoria's heavy bag," Sarah said calmly.
Arthur opened the notebook and read the handwritten pages inside carefully.
The notes listed dates, payments, and private legal terms in detail.
Evelyn's signature was written clearly at the bottom of the last page.
The two women had agreed to split the five million dollars evenly.
Evelyn was deeply in debt from gambling losses at local casinos.
She needed Arthur out of the way to control the entire trust fund.
Arthur handed the brown notebook directly to the lead police officer.
"It seems my stepmother was part of this plot too," Arthur said.
The second officer stepped toward Evelyn and held out his hands.
Evelyn began to cry loudly as the officer handcuffed her wrists.
"He was going to cut me out of the estate!" Evelyn wept uncontrollably.
