The Secret In The Will

David: I’m holding you, Sarah. You’re safe now. I swear to you, she will never lay a finger on you again.

Sarah: She wanted me to sign away the deed, David. She told me if I didn't sign the waiver, she would make sure I ended up with nothing from Dad's life insurance.

David: She has no power over Dad's life insurance or his bank accounts. None at all.

Sarah: But she showed me a document... she said Dad signed a new prenup amendment right before he passed away in the hospital.

David: That document is fake, Sarah. I found out about it two hours ago at the law firm downtown.

Sarah pulled back slightly, looking up into David’s eyes with absolute shock. Out on the patio, Victoria was struggling up the pool ladder, her expensive dress soaked and clinging to her legs as she coughed up water.

Victoria: You... you pushed your own mother into a pool for that worthless girl?!

David: Sit down on that chair and shut your mouth, Victoria! The police are already on their way!

Victoria: You called the police on me in my own home?!

David: It’s not your home! Dad’s real will was unsealed by the probate judge this morning!

Victoria: What... what are you talking about? The probate hearing wasn't scheduled until next month!

David: I filed an emergency motion yesterday because I suspected you were hiding assets from the family estate.

Sarah: David, what did the judge say?

David: The judge read Dad’s actual final testament. The one he wrote with his personal attorney three weeks before he went into the hospital.

Victoria stood dripping wet at the doorway, her hands shaking with cold rage and sudden fear.

Victoria: That attorney was fired! I signed the termination papers myself!

David: You can’t fire my father’s attorney, Mother. You didn't have power of attorney over his legal affairs, no matter how many papers you forged.

Sarah: What did Dad leave in the real will?

David: He left eighty percent of the entire estate, including this villa and the primary trust fund, directly to you, Sarah.

Victoria: That’s impossible! I am his legal wife! A court will never strip a widow of her primary residence!

David: They will when the widow is stripped of spousal rights due to documented fraud and physical abuse!

Sarah: David... is that true? Dad really gave the villa to me?

David: He knew what Victoria was planning. He told his lawyer he was terrified she would leave you penniless the moment he closed his eyes.

Victoria: You’re making this up to get back at me! You always took her side over mine!

David: Look at your own hands, Mother! You just stomped on a girl’s hand in broad daylight! You proved every single thing Dad was afraid of!
