Officer Davis: Dallas Police Department! Is everyone okay in here?!
David: Up here, Officer! On the second-floor balcony!
Two armed police officers rushed up the grand staircase, their heavy tactical boots thudding loudly against the polished wood. They reached the top of the landing, taking in the scene of Victoria crying on the floor beside the broken crystal.
Officer Davis: Sir, are you David Sterling? We received a 911 call about an endangered minor.
David: Yes, Officer. My wife just tried to murder my six-month-old daughter by dropping her off this balcony.
Victoria: That is a complete lie! Officers, do not listen to him! He is abusing me and trying to take my share of our marital property!
Officer Davis: Ma'am, calm down and stay where you are.
David: I have full 4K video evidence with clear audio recorded on our home security system, Officer. It shows the entire incident from start to finish.
Officer Davis: Let me see the phone, sir.
David handed his smartphone over to Officer Davis. The officer watched the recording, his face growing darker and more stern with every passing second.
Officer Davis: Good Lord... she really held that infant upside down over the edge.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, stand up right now and put your hands behind your back.
Victoria: What?! Are you insane?! I am Victoria Sterling! My father owns Sterling Logistics!
Officer Miller: I don't care if your father owns the state of Texas, ma'am. You are under arrest for attempted capital murder and felony child abuse.
Officer Miller grabbed Victoria's wrists, pulling them firmly behind her back. A sharp, loud metallic click echoed across the balcony as the handcuffs locked into place.
Victoria: AHH! You're pinching my skin! David, tell them to stop! You can't let them take me in handcuffs like a common criminal!
David: You are a criminal, Victoria. A cold, heartless one at that.
Victoria: You bastard! I hope your precious little baby grows up to hate you!
David: Take her out of my sight before I lose my temper, Officer.
The two officers dragged the screaming, flailing woman down the grand staircase. Her golden satin dress dragged along the marble floor, sweeping past the spot where little Lily had almost lost her life moments earlier.
Victoria: DAVID! MY LAWYERS WILL SUE YOU FOR THIS! YOU'LL PAY FOR EVERYTHING!
The heavy mahogany front doors slammed shut, cutting off her screeching voice as the police car sped away with its sirens blaring into the afternoon air.
