The Trial Of Eleanor Vance

He Found His Lost Wife Locked Beneath The Floorboards Of His Mansion

Three months later, the main courtroom at the Dallas County Courthouse was packed to capacity with news reporters, corporate executives, and curious onlookers. Eleanor Vance sat at the defense table in a navy blue prison jumpsuit, her hair unstyled and her wrists cuffed to a chain around her waist.

Across the room sat Julian, wearing a crisp charcoal suit, holding Evelyn's hand tightly. Evelyn wore a simple white dress, her skin healthy and glowing once again, though thin scars remained on her wrists.

Judge Montgomery: "This court is now in session to hear sentencing in the case of the State of Texas versus Eleanor Vance."

Prosecutor: "Your Honor, the state presents video evidence recovered from the cellar security system, as well as the testimony of Arthur Pendelton, the accomplice who maintained the captive space."

Defense Attorney: "Your Honor, my client is eighty-two years old. A lengthy prison sentence is effectively a life sentence! We request house arrest due to her medical condition!"

Prosecutor: "Eleanor Vance showed zero medical concern for a young woman she locked in a dark wooden box for seven hundred and thirty days!"

Evelyn: "May I speak, Your Honor?"

Judge Montgomery: "You may approach the podium, Mrs. Vance."

Evelyn stood up gracefully, supported by Julian as she stepped toward the microphone. She looked directly into the eyes of the old woman who had tried to erase her existence.

Evelyn: "For two years, I sat in the dark beneath the floorboards, watching dust fall through the cracks whenever my husband walked above me. I listened to him mourn for me, believing I had abandoned him."

Eleanor: "You were nothing... a nobody from the slums..."

Evelyn: "I was a human being who loved your grandson. You thought your money and your golden dresses made you god. But a maid with a heart saw my veil, and your empire crumbled in five minutes."

Judge Montgomery: "Silence at the defense table!"

Evelyn: "I do not seek revenge, Your Honor. I only seek justice so that no other innocent person suffers under the cruelty of the Vance family legacy."

Judge Montgomery adjusted his glasses, looking down at Eleanor with utter sternness.

Judge Montgomery: "Eleanor Vance, your actions demonstrate a level of calculated, sociopathic cruelty rarely seen in this courtroom. Age will not grant you mercy where you showed none."

Judge Montgomery: "I sentence you to twenty-five years at the Mountain View Unit without the possibility of parole."

Eleanor: "NO! You can't do this to me! I am Eleanor Vance!"

The heavy wooden gavel slammed down onto the bench with a loud, echoes crash that silenced the entire courtroom.

Judge Montgomery: "Bailiffs, remove the prisoner immediately."

Eleanor shrieked and struggled as the bailiffs pulled her from her chair, dragging her through the side door into the holding cells below. The gallery broke into soft applause as Julian pulled Evelyn into a deep, emotional embrace.
