Two Years In The Dark

He Found His Lost Wife Locked Beneath The Floorboards Of His Mansion

Evelyn: "Julian... the night of our rehearsal dinner... she called me down to the basement storage room."

Julian: "Shh, don't strain yourself, Evelyn. Save your strength."

Evelyn: "No, I have to tell you... she had two men throw a bag over my head. I thought they were going to kill me..."

Maya: "Here, ma'am, let me wrap this warm blanket around your shoulders."

Evelyn: "Thank you, Maya... thank you for noticing the veil..."

Julian: "How did you survive down there, Evelyn? My God, how did you survive two years?!"

Evelyn: "There was a narrow crawlspace connected to the old wine cellar pantry... every few days, a masked man would slide a tray of bread and a bottle of water through a small slot in the iron door."

Julian: "A masked man...? Eleanor, who did you hire to do this?!"

Eleanor stood near the doorway, her golden gown shimmering under the chandelier light, but her eyes were cold and devoid of remorse.

Eleanor: "I hired professionals who know how to keep their mouths shut. She was never meant to die, Julian. She was meant to break."

Julian: "You kept a human being in a cage beneath my living room!"

Eleanor: "She was a gold-digger! Her father owed three million dollars in gambling debts to overseas cartels! Do you think I was going to let her drag the Vance name into the mud?!"

Evelyn: "My father's debts had nothing to do with Julian! We loved each other!"

Eleanor: "Love is for poor people! Estates are built on reputation, strategic marriages, and clean bloodlines!"

Maya: "You are a monster, ma'am. A absolute monster."

Eleanor: "Know your place, maid! You are an employee in this house!"

Julian: "She's not an employee anymore, Eleanor. She's the person who saved my wife while you stood by and lied to my face for twenty-four months!"

Julian stood up, gently handing Evelyn over to Maya, who wrapped her arms around the trembling woman to keep her warm. He walked over to the antique desk near the American flag, pulling out a heavy set of keys and a leather-bound journal.

Julian: "You told me you found a goodbye letter from Evelyn in her dressing room."

Eleanor: "I showed you her handwriting! You verified it yourself!"

Julian: "You forged it. You brought in a handwriting expert to copy her signature from our marriage license application!"

Eleanor: "It saved you from being humiliated by a woman whose family was bankrupt!"

Julian: "I spent two years drinking myself to sleep, thinking the love of my life abandoned me on our wedding eve! I searched every city in Europe looking for her!"

Evelyn: "I heard you crying, Julian... through the floorboards..."

Julian stopped in his tracks, a tear slipping down his cheek as he turned back toward his wife.

Julian: "You... you heard me?"

Evelyn: "Every night you stayed home alone... I could hear your footsteps above my head. I screamed until my throat bled, but the wooden insulation was too thick..."

Julian: "Oh God... Evelyn... I'm so sorry..."

Evelyn: "Today... today I saw the vacuum cleaner pressing down on the floor hatch... I managed to push my wedding veil through the tiny air ventilation crack..."

Maya: "And I saw it. I swear, sir, it was like a miracle guided my hand to that rug."

The distant sound of wailing sirens echoed down the long gated driveway of the Dallas mansion. The red and blue lights began flashing through the high glass windows, illuminating the bright wood panels and the golden dress of Eleanor Vance.
