The Confrontation in the Suite

David strode up the grand marble staircase, each step filled with deliberate, terrifying purpose.

He pushed open the double doors of the master bedroom suite, where Vanessa was furiously throwing her designer dresses into open leather suitcases on the king-sized bed.

Vanessa: What do you want now, David?! Came to apologize before my father ruins your company?

David: Hand over the key to your jewelry case, Vanessa.

Vanessa: What?! My jewelry is my private property! You have no right to search my things!

David: My lawyer just pulled the insurance registry records, Vanessa. I know about Sarah's heirloom necklace.

Vanessa froze instantly, her face draining of all color as her hand hovered nervously over her handbag.

Vanessa: I... I don't know what you're talking about. That's a ridiculous accusation!

David: The three-carat antique diamond necklace that belonged to Sarah's grandmother. The one that went missing from the hospital safe eighteen months ago.

Vanessa: That was a gift! Sarah gave it to my family's foundation before she passed!

David: Sarah was in a coma during her final week, Vanessa! She couldn't give anyone anything!

Vanessa: You can't prove that!

David: The insurance policy you registered under your own name last month lists the exact serial number laser-etched on the center diamond!

Vanessa backed up against the vanity table, her eyes darting frantically toward the bedroom door.

Vanessa: It was sitting in a locker doing nothing! Sarah didn't need it anymore! Your little brat doesn't even know what a diamond is!

David: That necklace belongs to Lily! It's her mother's memory, and you stole it like a thief in the night!

Vanessa: I am a Vance! I am not a thief!

David: Then open that jewelry box right now, or the police officers arriving at the front gate in five minutes will open it for you!

Vanessa: You called the police on me?! Over an old piece of jewelry?!

David: I called them for grand larceny and child endangerment!

Vanessa grabbed her leather handbag off the bed, trying to push past David toward the balcony exit, but David caught her arm firmly.

David: Give me the bag, Vanessa.

Vanessa: Let go of me! You're hurting me!

David: Hand over my wife's necklace, or I swear to God you won't step foot outside this estate without handcuffs on!

With a desperate, hysterical shriek, Vanessa unzipped the leather bag and hurled a small velvet box straight at David's chest.

The box popped open as it hit the carpet, revealing the sparkling antique platinum chain and the brilliantly cut diamond pendant inside.

Vanessa: TAKE IT! Take your stupid dead wife's trash and let me leave!

David carefully picked up the velvet box, looking down at the shining diamond that Sarah used to wear around her neck every single holiday.

David: It's not trash, Vanessa. It's the one thing my daughter has left to remember her mother by. And you will never touch it again.
