The bright summer sun flooded the long marble hallway of the luxury mansion in upstate New York, casting sharp light across the polished floors.
David rushed down the hall, his heart pounding in his chest as frantic footsteps echoed through the vast house.
Through the heavy glass doors leading to the patio, he caught sight of a tiny figure standing outside, shivering and weeping frantically.
David: Oh my God! Lily!
He reached the handle, his hands trembling violently as he fumbled with the deadbolt in a panic.
He threw the glass door open sharply, the cold rush of outside air cutting into the warm hallway as the child's sobs filled the space.
David: Baby! Come here! Come to Daddy right now!
He snatched his six-year-old blonde daughter into his arms, pulling her small, shivering body tight against his white jacket.
Lily buried her tear-stained face into his neck, her entire body shaking with heavy, heart-wrenching sobs.
Lily: Daddy! Daddy, you came back!
David spun around toward the hallway, his face twisting with sudden, white-hot fury as he looked at his new fiancee, Vanessa.
Vanessa stood just a few feet away in her elegant silk dress, her arms crossed calmly over her chest without a single trace of remorse.
David: WHY WAS SHE LOCKED OUTSIDE?!
Vanessa: Calm down, David. You're overreacting over nothing.
David: Overreacting?! It's fifty degrees out there, and she's wearing a t-shirt! She's been crying her eyes out!
Vanessa: SHE WAS BEING TOO LOUD.
David: So you locked a six-year-old child out on the patio like an animal?!
Vanessa: I was on an important conference call with my divorce lawyer regarding my family's estate. I needed absolute quiet in the house.
Lily clutched David's shoulder harder, her small fingers digging into his coat as she let out a broken, tearful plea that shattered his heart entirely.
Lily: SHE SAID YOU ONLY LOVE HER NOW!
David: What did you say to my daughter, Vanessa?
Vanessa adjusted her silk sleeves, looking down her nose at the crying girl with cold indifference.
Vanessa: I told her the truth, David. She needs to learn that this is my house now, and you have a new life with me.
David reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out the crisp, folded prenup document they were scheduled to sign with their attorneys that afternoon.
With wide, angry eyes, David grabbed both sides of the legal paper and aggressively tore it completely in half.
Vanessa: David! What are you doing?! That took weeks to draft!
David: I'M DONE WITH YOU!
He dropped the shredded legal papers right onto the marble floor at her feet, turning his back on her as he carried his weeping daughter away from the toxic woman he almost married.
