The Ticking Clock

Vanessa: Pack my bags? Are you out of your mind?! This mansion belongs to the estate trust!

David: An estate trust that my family founded, Vanessa! My name is on the deed, not yours!

Vanessa: I paid twenty thousand dollars to decorate this hallway! I picked out the custom marble work!

David: Then rip the marble off the floor and take it with you. You're leaving.

Vanessa: I'm not going anywhere! We have sixty guests arriving tomorrow night for our engagement gala!

David: The gala is cancelled.

Vanessa: Cancelled?! Do you know how humiliating that will be for me?! The caterers, the flowers, the press coverage—everything is set!

David: I don't care about your press coverage. I care about my daughter's sanity.

Vanessa: Lily, tell your father to stop being foolish! Tell him you're fine!

Lily shrank back, pressing her small body against David's chest as he stepped between them.

David: Don't you dare speak to her! Back away from my daughter right now!

Vanessa: She's manipulating you, David! Look at her! She's smirking behind your back!

David: She's a terrified six-year-old child! Are you insane?! She's not manipulating anyone!

Vanessa: You choose her over me? Over a real partnership with my family's firm?

David: Every single time. In a heartbeat. Without hesitation.

Vanessa: Fine! Break the engagement! But you'll be paying the breach penalties on the corporate contract we signed last month!

David: I'll write your father a check for the full penalty amount by five o'clock today.

Vanessa: It's three million dollars, David!

David: Three million dollars is a cheap price to pay to get a venomous snake out of my home.

Vanessa's face flushed bright red with embarrassment and fury as she pulled her phone out of her leather handbag.

Vanessa: I'm calling my father right now! He will pull all funding from your real estate developments in Manhattan!

David: Go ahead. Call him. Tell him why you're being thrown out. Tell him you locked a motherless little girl outside in the freezing cold.

Vanessa: He won't care! He knows what it takes to run a proper household!

David: Then you two deserve each other. Now start packing.

Lily: Daddy... is she really going away?

David: Yes, sweetie. She's leaving today and she's never coming back.

Vanessa: You're making the biggest mistake of your life, David! No respectable woman in New York will ever marry a man who lets his child run his household!

David: Then I'll stay single forever. Because my daughter's happiness is worth more than any marriage certificate.

Vanessa glared at them both, stomping up the grand marble staircase toward the master suite, her heels echoing like thunder through the house.

David: Come on, Lily. Let's go into the office. I have a phone call to make to security.

Lily: Daddy? Can we call Grandma?

David: That's the best idea you've had all day, baby girl. Let's call Grandma right now.
