The Shadow in the Mansion

Vanessa: David! Get back here right now! You cannot just walk away from me after tearing up our prenup!

David: Watch me, Vanessa. Watch me walk right out that front door.

Vanessa: Do you have any idea how much money my family invested in your firm's expansion this year?

David: Keep your money. Keep every single cent of your family's estate fund.

David carried Lily into the bright, high-key kitchen, gently placing her on top of the clean quartz counter.

David: Hey, sweet girl. Look at me. You're safe now. Daddy's right here.

Lily: Is she gonna put me outside again, Daddy?

David: Never again, Lily. I swear to you on my life, no one will ever lock you out or hurt you again.

Vanessa marched into the kitchen, her high heels clicking loudly against the marble floor.

Vanessa: She was misbehaving, David! She spilled apple juice on my imported wool rug in the living room!

David: She's six years old, Vanessa! She spilled juice, so your punishment was locking her on a balcony in the cold?!

Vanessa: It builds discipline! My father locked me on the porch when I made messes as a child, and I turned out completely fine!

David: You didn't turn out fine, Vanessa! You turned into a heartless monster who abuses little girls!

Vanessa: Don't you dare call me a monster in front of her!

David: Then stop acting like one! You told her I don't love her anymore?! How could you say something so cruel to a child who lost her mother last year?

Vanessa: Because she consumes all your time! We were supposed to go to Italy for our engagement trip, and you cancelled it because she had a fever!

David: She had a hundred and three fever! I'm her father!

Vanessa: And I am supposed to be your wife! I will not be second place to a child!

David: You're right, Vanessa. You won't be second place. Because you won't be anywhere in our lives at all.

Vanessa: You're throwing away our engagement? Our merger? Our future over a minor misunderstanding?!

David: Locking my daughter outside isn't a misunderstanding! It's child abuse!

Lily: Daddy... my hands are still cold.

David immediately grabbed a warm kitchen towel, wrapping it tenderly around his daughter's trembling little hands.

David: I've got you, baby. Daddy's making you warm right now.

Vanessa: You spoil her, David. You cater to her every tear. That's why she acts out!

David: She was crying because she was terrified! She was locked outside for almost an hour while I was at the bank!

Vanessa: It was twenty minutes! Stop dramaticizing everything!

David: Twenty minutes in fifty-degree weather is twenty minutes too long!

Vanessa: You need a woman who can manage this household, David. Your late wife left this place in complete chaos!

David froze, his jaw clenching tightly as he turned to face Vanessa with deadly calm.

David: Do not bring Sarah into your mouth. Ever.

Vanessa: Sarah is dead, David! She's been gone for eighteen months! You need to stop living in the past and start focusing on our future!

David: My future is protecting my daughter. And you are officially a threat to her safety.

Vanessa: A threat? I am a prominent socialite in New York! I have a pristine reputation!

David: Your reputation won't save you from what I'm about to do next.

Vanessa: What is that supposed to mean?

David: It means you have thirty minutes to pack your designer bags and get out of my mansion.
