The Paper in the Study

A Maid Uncovers a Secret That Destroys a Family

Julian walked into the main office on the second floor.

Clara followed close behind him.

Clara: We can discuss this like reasonable adults.

Julian: Where are the rest of the documents?

Julian opened the heavy wooden desk drawers.

He searched through file folders and letters.

Clara: You won't find anything in there.

Julian: You lied to me for three years.

Clara: I protected this family's wealth!

Julian pulled out a locked leather box from the cabinet.

Julian: Where is the key, Clara?

Clara: I don't know where it is.

Julian grabbed a metal letter opener from the desk.

He pried the lock open with a sharp snap.

Inside lay stack of bank statements.

Each statement showed massive transfers into an offshore account.

Julian: This is millions of dollars.

Julian: Ethan was supposed to receive this money when he turned twenty-five.

Clara: Ethan is unstable and careless!

Clara: He would have wasted every single dollar!

Julian: It was not your decision to make!

The door opened quietly behind them.

Elena stood in the doorway holding a small key.

Elena: The key to the safe is behind the painting.

Clara spun around with anger.

Clara: Get out of my house right now!

Julian: She stays right here, Clara.

Julian walked over to the framed oil painting on the wall.

He moved it aside to reveal a small wall safe.

He inserted the key into the slot.

The metal door clicked open.

Inside was the original copy of his father's will.

Julian pulled it out into the light.

Julian: You hid the real will.

Clara: It was unfair to you!

Clara: Your father wanted to leave half to Ethan!

Julian: Ethan is my brother!

Julian: I loved him and trusted you!

Clara wiped a tear from her cheek.

Clara: I did everything for our marriage!

Julian: You did everything for yourself.

Julian pulled out his phone from his pocket.

Clara: Who are you calling?

Julian: I am calling our divorce lawyer.

Clara: You wouldn't dare do that to me!

Julian: Watch me.
