Justice Served

Davenport: You can't arrest me! Do you know how much tax revenue my firm generates for this city?!

Officer Miller: I don't care about your tax revenue, sir. Put your hands behind your back right now, or I will add resisting arrest to your charges.

The surrounding diners broke into loud applause as Officer Miller placed silver handcuffs around Davenport's wrists, leading the humiliated businessman past the tables toward the front door.

Diner A: Outstanding job, officer! Get that bully out of here!

Diner B: Good for you, ma'am! Standing up for your kid like a real mother!

Davenport kept his head down, his face bright red with shame as patrons snapped photos and recorded videos of him being escorted out in cuffs.

Clara knelt down on the marble floor once more, handing the small brown stuffed bear back to Lily and wiping a remaining tear from her cheek.

Clara: Here you go, sweetheart. Barnaby is safe and sound.

Lily: Thank you, Mommy... is that mean man gone forever?

Clara: He is gone, baby. He can never, ever hurt you or yell at you again.

Lily: You were so brave, Mommy! You pushed him super hard!

Clara: Nobody gets to treat my little girl like that. Ever. Do you hear me?

Lily: Yes, Mommy. I love you so much.

Clara: I love you more than all the stars in the sky, sweetie.

Clara lifted Lily into her arms, holding her close as she walked past the bowing manager and out the front doors into the cool evening air.

The night sky was clear, and the city lights twinkled brightly above the bustling streets.

Lily: Mommy, can we go home and watch a movie on the couch?

Clara: We sure can, baby. We can order ice cream sundaes and watch whatever movie you want.

Lily: Yay! With extra chocolate sauce?

Clara: With all the chocolate sauce in the world.

Clara set Lily safely in the backseat of her luxury sedan, buckling her seatbelt tightly before kissing her forehead.

As Clara sat in the driver's seat and started the engine, her phone buzzed on the dashboard with a text notification from her legal team.

Text Message: Mrs. Vance, Davenport's board of directors just called an emergency meeting following online video uploads. His termination is expected by midnight.

Clara set the phone down with a quiet, satisfied smile, putting the car in drive and pulling out onto the open road.

She looked in the rearview mirror at her daughter, who was happily holding her stuffed bear and humming a cheerful song, completely safe and protected.

Clara knew that no amount of corporate power, luxury watches, or wealthy arrogance could ever stand against the fierce, unconditional love of a mother protecting her child.
