Leo stood on the middle step, pointing his finger directly at Vanessa.
The boy's frame was shaking, but his eyes were wide and steady.
"Dad! She pushed Grandma!" Leo screamed at the top of his lungs.
The entire foyer fell completely silent as the accusation filled the air.
Vanessa spun around on the marble floor, her face turning pale.
"He is lying!" Vanessa screamed wildly as she stood up fast.
"He is just making up a story because he hates me!" she yelled.
Mark looked up from his injured mother, feeling completely shocked.
"Leo, what did you see?" Mark asked in a low, dangerous tone.
"I saw her hand on Grandma's back!" Leo cried out tears forming.
"She shoved her right when Grandma turned her head away!" Leo added.
Vanessa lunged up the stairs toward the young boy in desperation.
Mark stood up instantly and stepped directly between Vanessa and his son.
He grabbed Vanessa firmly by the arms before she could reach Leo.
"Don't you dare go near my son!" Mark barked furiously.
"Mark, you have to believe me!" Vanessa pleaded, her voice cracking loud.
"He is just a child who wants us to split up!" she sobbed.
Mark looked down at his mother who was groaning softly on the floor.
The ambulance sirens blared in the distance, growing closer every second.
Paramedics rushed through the large double front doors moments later.
They placed Evelyn carefully onto a gurney to transport her quickly.
"Is she going to be okay?" Mark asked the paramedic urgently.
"Her pulse is stable, but she has a severe head injury," he replied.
Mark watched them roll his mother out into the bright driveway.
Vanessa tried to step close to Mark to touch his shoulder gently.
Mark pulled away instantly, looking at her with cold, dark eyes.
He grabbed her firmly near her collar to hold her right there.
"You pushed my mother," Mark said, his voice deadly quiet and direct.
Vanessa trembled in his grip, sweat breaking out across her forehead.
"I didn't! It was an accident!" Vanessa whispered in terror.
Leo walked down the remaining stairs and stood beside his father.
He grabbed Mark's hand and held it tightly in his own small palm.
"Dad... that's not the worst thing she did," Leo said softly.
Mark turned his eyes away from Vanessa to look down at Leo.
"What do you mean, Leo?" Mark asked softly, feeling a chill run deep.
"She was in your office last night with a strange man," Leo revealed.
