The Arrest Of Isabella

Within fifteen minutes, the quiet luxury estate was filled with the flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers. Two uniformed officers strode through the grand foyer, past the framed American flag, and into the brightly lit hallway where the crowd of guests remained gathered.

Police Officer 1: Who is the homeowner who placed the call regarding child endangerment?

Arthur: I am, Officer. My name is Arthur Sterling. My wife, Isabella, has been unlawfully confining my six-year-old son in a hidden wall space.

Isabella: Officer, this is a private family dispute! My husband is trying to frame me to get out of our prenuptial agreement!

Police Officer 1: Ma'am, stand back and let us conduct our investigation.

The second officer pulled out a heavy flashlight, walking over to the opened wall panel. He shined the bright beam into the narrow cavity, documenting the cramped conditions with a body-worn camera.

Police Officer 2: I have visual confirmation of a living space built into the wall partition. Mattress, water container, and latch mechanism operated from the exterior side only.

Police Officer 1: Isabella Sterling, step forward and place your hands behind your back.

Isabella: What?! You can't arrest me! I am the host of this gala! Do you know who my father is?!

Police Officer 1: I don't care who your father is, ma'am. You are under arrest for felony child abuse, unlawful restraint, and reckless endangerment of a minor.

The officer grabbed Isabella's slender wrists, pulling them firmly behind her back. The cold steel handcuffs clicked shut with a loud, distinct sound that echoed through the high-key hallway.

Isabella: Get your hands off me! Arthur! Tell them to release me right now! I'm your wife!

Arthur: You are a criminal, Isabella. And you are going to pay for every single minute my son spent in that dark room.

Isabella: You'll regret this, Arthur! I'll sue you for everything you're worth!

Judge Vance: You won't have a dime left for legal fees, Isabella. I have already frozen your cards. The foundation is covering Arthur's representation.

The guests watched in utter disgust as the officers escorted the crying, screaming woman down the white marble corridor, her champagne satin dress sweeping against the floor as she was led out to the waiting squad car.

Elena: Mr. Sterling... I'm so sorry I didn't find him sooner. I suspected something was wrong last week, but I couldn't prove it until I heard him whimpering today.

Arthur turned to the young maid, his expression full of immense gratitude as he placed a hand gently on her shoulder.

Arthur: Elena, you saved my son's life today. You showed more courage than anyone in this house.

Elena: I just couldn't let a sweet boy suffer like that, sir.

Arthur: You are not a maid in this house anymore, Elena. I want you to stay on as Ethan's full-time guardian and head of household staff, with triple your current salary.

Elena gasped, her hands coming up to cover her mouth in shock.

Elena: Mr. Sterling... I don't know what to say. Thank you so much!

Arthur: No, thank you, Elena. You brought light back into this home.
