The pristine, high-key luxury hallway of the Sterling estate was completely quiet, its polished white walls and ornate gold trim reflecting the bright afternoon light. Elena, a young maid in a simple gray uniform and white gloves, frantically tapped her fingers against the dark wood paneling lining the corridor. Her breathing was quick and panicked as she pressed her ear against the wall, listening closely to the faint sounds from within.
Elena: Ethan? Can you hear me? Are you in there?
Through the narrow wooden louvers near the base of the wall panel, small child's fingers suddenly poked out into the light, trembling with fear.
Ethan: Please... help me! It's so dark in here!
Elena: Oh God! Hold on, sweetie! I'm getting you out right now!
Elena reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a small metallic multi-tool, jamming the thin blade directly into the hidden latch mechanism beneath the wood trim. Her hands shook violently as the lock rattled and clicked against the frame.
Elena: Just stay back from the door, Ethan! Don't let it hit you!
Ethan: Please hurry! She said nobody would ever find me!
With a sharp metallic snap, the hidden catch released, and a narrow section of the wall popped open. Elena dropped to her knees under the bright daylight, gasping at the sight inside. Curled up on a thin towel on the bare hardwood floor was six-year-old Ethan, his navy blue pajamas covered in dust, clutching his knees to his chest.
Elena: Ethan! Come here, baby!
Elena reached into the narrow partition, tearfully pulling the trembling boy out into the open hallway and wrapping her arms tightly around him. Ethan buried his face into her shoulder, his little frame shaking with heavy, emotional sobs as he held onto her uniform.
Ethan: She locked me in when the cars drove up... She said Dad would never find me again!
Elena: Shh, it's okay now. I've got you. You're safe with me.
Heavy, confident footsteps suddenly echoed from the front foyer, where a large framed American flag hung above the grand marble archway. Isabella Sterling swept into the hallway in an elegant champagne satin gown, followed closely by her husband, Arthur, who looked striking in his tailored tuxedo. Isabella stopped dead in her tracks, her icy eyes locking onto the maid kneeling on the floor with the child.
Isabella: What do you think you are doing?! Put him back inside that room right now, Elena, and I might just let you keep your job!
Arthur froze, his face turning pale as he stared from his wife to the open wall panel, and finally to his terrified, dust-covered son.
Arthur: Isabella... why was my son sealed behind that wall?!
