Evelyn: You wouldn't dare call the police on me, Caleb! Think of what the newspapers will say tomorrow morning!
Caleb: I don't give a damn about the newspapers, Evelyn. My son was almost killed on this floor.
Evelyn: There is no proof! You didn't see me drop him! You only saw the aftermath!
Maya: Look up at the ceiling archway, Evelyn. Right above the entrance sconce.
Evelyn's head jerked upward, her eyes widening as she spotted a small, dark glass dome mounted beside the crown molding.
A tiny green indicator light was pulsing steadily inside the dome, pointed directly at the second-floor balcony railing.
Evelyn: That camera was disconnected! The technician told me the main foyer feed was turned off for renovations!
Caleb: The wall cameras were off, Evelyn. The ceiling security dome runs on a separate military-grade satellite backup.
Evelyn: You... you were recording this entire foyer?
Caleb: My security company monitors that feed twenty-four hours a day. I watched you carry my son to that railing from my phone while driving down the highway.
Evelyn's knees buckled, and she had to grip the banister with both hands to keep from collapsing onto the floor.
Evelyn: You watched the whole thing live?
Caleb: I watched you look around to see if anyone was watching. I watched you lean over the rail. And I watched you open your fingers.
Maya: You are a monster, Evelyn. A cold, heartless monster who cares only about money.
Evelyn: Caleb, please! It was a moment of temporary insanity! I was overwhelmed by the financial pressure!
Caleb: What financial pressure could possibly make a woman drop a four-month-old infant off a balcony?
Evelyn: My father's hedge fund lost eighty million dollars in the overseas shipping collapse last week!
Caleb: And what did that have to do with my child?
Evelyn: If your mother recognized this boy as the primary heir, the Sterling trust fund would lock all distributions for the next twenty years!
Maya: So you wanted him dead so the money would flow to your family's accounts?
Evelyn: We needed thirty million dollars by Friday to stop the federal bank auditors from raiding our private offices!
Caleb: You were going to sacrifice my child's life to cover up your father's illegal financial fraud?
Evelyn lowered her head, her breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps as the full weight of her exposure crashed down upon her.
Evelyn: We were desperate, Caleb... You have so much money! You wouldn't even notice thirty million dollars missing!
Caleb: I would burn every dollar I own before I let a single penny touch your filthy, bloodstained hands.
A sharp knock sounded at the double doors. Dr. Reynolds rushed inside carrying his black medical bag, his face pale with worry.
Dr. Reynolds: Caleb! I got here as fast as I could! Where is the baby?
Maya: Over here, Doctor! Please check his neck and his spine! He fell from the mezzanine, but I caught him before he hit the stone!
Dr. Reynolds: Let me see him immediately. Let's move him to the sofa in the study where the light is better.
Caleb gently lifted Maya by her elbow, helping her stand up from the marble floor before placing his arm around her waist.
Caleb: Go with the doctor, Maya. Make sure our boy is completely healthy.
Maya: Caleb, don't let her leave this house before the officers arrive.
Caleb: Nobody is leaving, Maya. Her luxury life is officially over.
Maya carried the crying infant into the warm study, leaving Caleb standing alone in the grand foyer with his trembling wife and the two security guards.
