Leo: Mom! You are awake!
The little boy ran straight to her side and hugged her arms.
Sarah smiled softly and rested her hand gently on his hair.
Sarah: Hey sweetie. I am feeling a little better now.
David walked over slowly and kissed her forehead with deep relief.
David: You scared us so much. What happened back home?
A serious doctor stepped into the room holding a flat chart.
Doctor: Mr. Miller, I have the initial results from her blood tests.
David turned around quickly to face the tall gray-haired doctor.
David: Did she have a heart attack or a stroke?
Doctor: No, her heart and brain are completely healthy and normal.
Sarah: Then why did I faint so suddenly, Doctor?
Doctor: We found high traces of a heavy sedating compound in your system.
David stared at the doctor in total and utter shock.
David: Sedatives? She does not take any medication like that.
Doctor: It was ingested recently, likely in a drink within hours before fainting.
Sarah gasped softly as her memory of the morning returned.
She looked up at David with wide frightened eyes across the room.
Sarah: Marcus brought me iced tea right before you came downstairs.
David felt a surge of cold anger rush through his entire body.
David: Marcus came to the house while I was out in the garage?
Sarah: Yes, he said he wanted to discuss the inheritance estate papers.
Leo: I saw Uncle Marcus leave through the back gate earlier!
David looked down at his brave young son in realization.
David: Did he say anything to you before he left, Leo?
Leo: He told me not to bother Mom because she was resting.
