Heavy footsteps echoed from the front porch through the open wooden doors.
Four uniformed police officers stepped inside the mansion with firm expressions.
The lead officer had a golden badge pinned to his dark blue uniform shirt.
He looked at Mark holding the crying baby in his arms.
Then the officer turned his gaze directly toward Victoria's frozen frame.
"Is everyone alright in here?" the officer asked in an authoritative voice.
"I called nine one one on my drive over," Mark explained clearly.
"She tried to endanger my son to force a lawsuit settlement," Mark added.
Victoria quickly stepped toward the officers with her hands raised high.
"That is a complete lie!" Victoria shouted with fake tears appearing.
"He is an unfit father who is breaking our divorce agreement!" she lied.
The lead officer held up his hand to stop her from coming closer.
"Ma'am, stay right where you are until we sort this out," he said.
A female officer stepped up to Mark to check on the small baby.
She gentle touched the towel and smiled softly at the child.
"The baby looks safe, but we need a medical team to check," she said.
Mark nodded his head because he wanted to be totally sure.
Victoria tried to back away toward the back door of the kitchen.
Another officer stepped into her path to block her quick escape.
"You are not leaving yet, ma'am," the second officer said sternly.
Mark looked at the legal papers sitting on the grand glass table.
Victoria had brought them along to make him sign away his rights.
The lead officer picked up the papers and read the header text.
He saw the custody demands and the transfer of the big estate.
"This looks like a forced agreement," the officer noted out loud.
Victoria's face turned pale as her carefully made plan fell apart fast.
