Arthur froze in place near the front entrance, staring at the chaotic scene unfolding inside his grand foyer.
He saw his young daughter crying uncontrollably on the floor in the arms of his trusted family maid.
He saw his wife standing nearby, breathing heavily with a panicky expression plastered all over her pale face.
"What on earth happened here?" Arthur demanded, his deep voice echoing across the tall marble walls.
Clara immediately rushed toward her wealthy husband, trying to pull his arm into her soft hands quickly.
"Arthur, thank goodness you are home, the most terrible thing almost happened just now!" Clara cried loudly.
"Lily was playing near the railing and she almost tumbled right over the second-story ledge," Clara claimed.
"I tried my very best to hold onto her, but her shirt was far too slick!" she added.
Elena stood up slowly, holding the little girl securely against her shoulder while facing her rich employer.
"That is a complete lie, sir," Elena said with absolute firm determination in her steady voice.
"I stood right down here and saw her intentionally push the little girl over the high railing," Elena stated.
Clara gasped dramatically, turning toward the maid with pure fury burning brightly inside her dark eyes.
"How dare you accuse me of such a horrific crime, you ungrateful maid!" Clara screamed loudly at her.
"Arthur, she is trying to frame me so she can ask you for extra money!" Clara claimed nervously.
Arthur looked between his terrified, sobbing daughter and his defensiveness-filled wife with growing dread and suspicion.
He walked over to Elena and gently took his trembling daughter into his own strong, loving arms.
Lily buried her small wet face into her father's expensive suit coat, shaking from the terrifying ordeal.
"Daddy, she held me over the bar," Lily whimpered softly in her small, innocent voice.
Arthur felt a cold chill run through his entire body as he processed his young daughter's plain words.
He turned his gaze toward Clara, his eyes darkening with absolute rage and total betrayal.
"Did you really try to hurt my child for her inheritance money?" Arthur asked in a deadly whisper.
"No, Arthur, you must believe me, it was just a terrible mistake!" Clara begged, backing away slowly.
Arthur raised his hand sternly, pointing his long index finger directly toward the open double doors.
"Get out of my house right now before I call the police on you!" Arthur shouted furiously.
