Red and blue emergency lights flashed bright against the tall glass front doors.
Two local police officers walked up the stone front steps and knocked sharply.
Richard walked past Victoria and pulled the heavy wooden front door wide open.
Sheriff Davis stepped into the bright foyer with his hand resting near his belt.
Sheriff: Afternoon, Mr. Miller, we received an emergency video dispatch from Arthur.
Richard: She is standing right there on the stairs, Sheriff.
Victoria stepped forward quickly with tears streaming down her carefully painted cheeks.
Victoria: Sheriff, my husband is completely hysterical and lying about everything!
Victoria: He shoved me down those steps earlier and threatened my life!
Sheriff Davis looked at her coldly and pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs.
Sheriff: We already reviewed the overhead security feed on our patrol car tablet.
Sheriff: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, Mrs. Miller.
Victoria: You cannot arrest me! I am the wife of a CEO!
Sheriff: You have the right to remain silent under Texas state law.
The second officer stepped up the marble steps and secured the metal cuffs firmly.
Victoria began shouting hysterically as she was led toward the open front entrance.
Victoria: Marcus will fix this! You will pay for this, Richard!
Richard: Marcus was arrested ten minutes ago at his downtown office building, Victoria.
Victoria gasped as the second officer guided her into the back of the police cruiser.
The heavy car door slammed shut with a solid, final sound on the driveway.
Sheriff Davis turned back to face Richard near the high doorway entry.
Sheriff: Is your little girl doing alright inside, Mr. Miller?
Richard: She is safe upstairs with her nanny, thank you for coming fast.
Sheriff: You saved her life today by having those security cameras running.
Richard: I will protect my daughter no matter what it takes in this life.
Sheriff Davis tipped his hat respectfully and walked down the wide front steps.
Richard closed the heavy oak door and took a deep, clear breath of air.
The house was quiet again as the morning sun flooded through the tall windows.
