The sun was just rising over the grand hill country estate on a quiet Tuesday morning.
Richard Miller stood in the kitchen pouring his morning black coffee into a heavy ceramic mug.
He was the chief executive officer of a huge logistics firm based in downtown Dallas.
His six-year-old daughter Lily was supposed to be upstairs in her bedroom playing with her dolls.
Suddenly, a piercing child scream echoed loudly down the high marble entryway of the huge mansion.
Richard dropped his coffee mug onto the counter and sprinted toward the main foyer immediately.
He looked up toward the second-floor balcony that overlooked the bright marble floors below.
His new wife Victoria stood right by the high iron railing in a bright green satin dress.
She was leaning far over the edge with Lily gasping for air in her tight grasp.
Lily: Daddy! Help me!
Richard: No! I have got you!
Richard ran with everything he had across the polished marble floor toward the stairs.
His expensive leather shoes slid across the smooth floor as he threw his hands upward desperately.
Victoria released her grip on the child's small coat right as Richard lunged forward underneath.
He caught little Lily securely in his heavy arms just inches above the hard floor.
The impact hit his chest hard as he slid across the slick white tile surface.
He collapsed onto his back and held Lily firmly against his racing heartbeat.
Richard: I have got you, sweetheart.
Richard: You are completely safe now, shh, it is okay.
Lily wept loudly into his soft suit jacket while clinging to his neck with all her strength.
Victoria rushed down the grand curved staircase with her hands waving frantically in the air.
Victoria: It was an absolute accident, Richard!
Victoria: She slipped right out of my hands while looking at the morning light!
Richard sat up slowly while holding his daughter tightly against his broad shoulder.
His face turned red with pure rage as he glared back up at Victoria.
Richard: No! You dropped her!
Richard: Don't you ever lay a hand on my daughter ever again!
Victoria backed away against the tall wall near the large hanging American flag.
She held her chest and started crying fake tears to hide her growing panic.
Richard stood up carefully while wrapping Lily inside his gray jacket to keep her warm.
Richard: Go to your room now, Victoria.
Victoria: You cannot speak to me like this in my own home, Richard!
Richard: This is my home, and my daughter comes before anyone else.
Victoria turned around quickly and ran back up the stairs toward the master bedroom suite.
Richard carried Lily into the warm living room and placed her gently on the leather couch.
His hands were shaking uncontrollable as he checked her arms and small knees for bruises.
Richard: Did she hurt you before I came into the room, sweetie?
Lily: She whispered that you loved her more than me, Daddy.
Lily: Then she lifted me over the bar and told me not to move.
Richard felt a cold chill run straight down his back as he heard those words.
He realized right then that his marriage was built entirely on dangerous lies and greed.
