The Poison In The Tea

The Muddy Boy Who Stopped A Funeral In Time

Two hours later the bright lights of the city hospital hallway were white and sterile.

Arthur sat on a hard vinyl chair next to Leo while holding two paper cups of water.

A senior police detective walked out from behind the heavy sliding glass room doors.

Detective: Mister Miller, the doctors have successfully pumped the unknown drug from your brother's system.

Arthur: Is George going to make a full recovery from this ordeal?

Detective: Yes, the doctors say he will be completely back to normal in a few days.

Leo: Can I see him now, please?

Detective: In just a few minutes, young man. You are a real hero today.

The detective opened a small black notebook and looked at his hand-written notes inside.

Detective: We searched the master bedroom at the mansion under a formal warrant an hour ago.

Detective: Hidden inside Victoria's private safe was an imported liquid sedative bottle.

Arthur: She wanted his entire fortune and his life insurance policy money immediately.

Detective: We also found a forged signature on a new will changing the primary estate beneficiary.

Arthur shook his head in complete disgust while holding Leo's small hand tightly.

Arthur: George trusted her completely after they married last summer in Hawaii.

Detective: Her accomplice was the private family doctor who signed the false death certificate.

Detective: Police officers arrested that doctor at his downtown clinic twenty minutes ago.

The sliding glass door opened again and a nurse motioned for them to step inside the room.

George was sitting up in the hospital bed with a warm blanket pulled over his shoulders.

His color had returned to his face and his eyes were clear under the indoor room lights.

George: Come in here, Arthur... bring the boy over to my side.

Leo walked slowly toward the high bed while looking down at his muddy shoes with shame.

Leo: I am sorry I ruined your clean funeral suit with my dirty clothes, Mister George.

George reached out his large arm and pulled the young boy into a soft warm hug.

George: You saved my life today, son. You are family to me forever now.
