A New Beginning For Toby

The Maid Saw The Stepmother Drop The Baby

Inside the brightly lit nursery, Sarah sat in the rocking chair, holding baby Toby close against her chest as she hummed a soft lullaby. The baby had stopped crying completely, his small thumb tucked into his mouth as his eyes blinked sleepily.

Arthur knocked gently on the open wooden door before stepping inside the room, a warm, relieved smile softening his tired face.

Arthur: How is he doing, Sarah?

Sarah: He’s doing great, Mr. Sterling. He just needed a little warm milk and some quiet time. He’s almost fast asleep.

Arthur: Sarah... I don't even know how to begin to thank you for what you did today on those steps.

Sarah: You don't have to thank me, sir. I promised your late wife on her hospital bed three years ago that I would always look after Toby no matter what happened.

Arthur: You put your own body between him and a marble floor. You could have been severely injured if you fell over that landing edge.

Sarah: A bruise on my knees is nothing compared to keeping this innocent baby safe, Mr. Sterling.

Arthur walked over and sat on the ottoman beside the rocking chair, looking at his son’s peaceful, sleeping face.

Arthur: Starting today, Sarah, you are no longer the household maid.

Sarah: Sir? Are... are you firing me?

Arthur: Firing you? Absolutely not! I am appointing you as the full-time Head Guardian of the Sterling Family Trust and Toby's personal primary estate administrator.

Sarah: Mr. Sterling... I don't know what to say! That's an executive position!

Arthur: Your salary will be five hundred thousand dollars a year, with full healthcare benefits and a corporate account for Toby's education needs.

Sarah: Five... five hundred thousand?! Mr. Sterling, that's way too much money for someone like me!

Arthur: You saved my son's life, Sarah. You saved his mother's legacy, and you brought justice to the monsters who ruined our lives. You deserve every single penny and more.

Tears of joy welled up in Sarah’s eyes as she looked down at the sleeping infant in her arms.

Sarah: Thank you, Mr. Sterling... I promise I will protect him with everything I have for the rest of my life.

Arthur: I know you will, Sarah. I know you will.

Outside the nursery window, the dark storm clouds over Bel-Air began to clear, letting warm, golden sunlight pour across the nursery carpet. The dark shadow that had hovered over the Sterling family for years was finally gone forever, replaced by the light of truth, justice, and unwavering loyalty.
