The crystal chandeliers of the Sterling estate hummed softly above the grand marble foyer, casting a bright glare over the polished floor. American flags flanked the sweeping double staircase, giving the mansion an air of old money and traditional power. Standing near the top landing, Victoria adjusted the sleeves of her sparkly maroon gown, her cold eyes scanning the empty hall below. She checked her gold wristwatch, waiting for her husband Arthur to return from his corporate flight.
Victoria: Where is that incompetent girl with his medicine?
From around the corner of the landing, nineteen-year-old Sarah walked out carrying baby Toby, who was dressed in a soft grey vest. The infant was crying hysterically, his tiny fists kicking against the air as tears streamed down his flushed cheeks. Sarah rocked him gently in her arms, trying to soothe his frantic wails while balancing a baby bottle on her wrist.
Sarah: Shh, little guy, it’s okay. Mommy’s coming home soon, I’ve got you.
Victoria: Give him to me right now, Sarah!
Sarah: Mrs. Sterling, please! He’s terrified of loud noises, you’re making him cry harder!
Victoria: I said hand him over! You don't tell me how to handle my own stepson!
Victoria stepped forward and snatched the baby out of Sarah's arms, holding the infant high over her head. The baby shrieked in absolute terror, hovering dangerously above the hard marble floor far below the balcony railing.
Victoria: Look at him, ruining another family afternoon with his miserable screaming!
Sarah: Mrs. Sterling, no! Bring him down! Please, you're going to lose your grip!
Victoria: He ruined everything! Don't ever touch him again!
Victoria opened her fingers, letting the infant fall toward the marble steps below. A sharp gasp echoed through the foyer as Sarah dived forward, her hands extending over the edge in pure desperation. Would Sarah be able to save the innocent child before he hit the cold stone floor, or would Victoria's cruel plot destroy the family forever?
