Evelyn backed away slowly toward the large wooden banister behind her.
Her face went completely pale as she saw Arthur's furious expression.
Evelyn: Arthur, please let me explain the situation!
Arthur: You monster! You are going to prison for life!
Arthur grabbed Evelyn's wrist tightly before she could run upstairs.
The senior police officer stepped forward immediately and grabbed her other arm.
The sharp sound of metal handcuffs clicking rang through the foyer.
Evelyn: Get your filthy hands off me this instant!
Police Officer: Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for fraud and child endangerment.
Evelyn: You cannot do this to me! I am the mistress here!
Arthur: You are nothing but a thief who tried to hurt my family!
The officers pulled the screaming woman toward the open front door.
Evelyn struggled against the restraints, but the officers held her firmly.
They led her out into the pouring rain toward the police car.
The flashing red and blue lights reflected off the wet driveway outside.
Arthur turned back toward the stairs where Victoria stood with Lily.
He walked over slowly and dropped to his knees on the marble.
He pulled his young daughter into a tight and warm hug.
Tears of deep relief ran down the father's tired cheeks openly.
Arthur: I am so sorry, my sweet girl, I was so blind.
Lily: I was so scared, Daddy, but Victoria saved me.
Arthur looked up at the loyal housemaid with pure gratitude in his eyes.
