Three months later, the morning sun shone brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance estate, illuminating the sparkling white marble foyer.
The large American flag still hung proudly above the balcony, but the dark, heavy atmosphere that once ruled the house was completely gone.
Arthur: Elena, do we have everything packed for Lily's doctor appointment?
Elena: Everything is ready by the door, Mr. Vance. Her diaper bag, her favorite stuffed bear, and her juice box.
Arthur: How many times do I have to tell you to call me Arthur? You run this house now, Elena.
Elena smiled softly as she carried a happy, laughing Lily down the grand staircase. The child held tightly onto Elena's neck, giggling as they reached the bottom floor.
Elena: Force of habit, Arthur. It takes time to get used to living in a palace instead of cleaning it.
Arthur: You earned every inch of this peace. My lawyer called this morning, by the way.
Elena: What did the judge say about Victoria?
Arthur: The trial is officially over. The video evidence was completely undeniable. She was sentenced to twenty-five years in state prison without the possibility of parole for attempted murder.
Elena let out a long, quiet breath of relief, setting Lily down on the plush rug in the living room.
Elena: So it's finally over. She can never hurt this sweet girl again.
Arthur: Never. The divorce was finalized last week, and the court stripped her of every single claim to my estate or trust funds. She gets nothing.
Elena: Justice was served. That's all that matters.
Arthur: Not quite all that matters. I also had my legal team draft up a new trust fund agreement for Lily yesterday.
Elena: Oh?
Arthur: I added a clause appointing you as her co-trustee. If anything ever happens to me, you will have complete legal control over her inheritance and custody until she comes of age.
Elena stopped, looking at Arthur in shock.
Elena: Arthur... that's millions of dollars. You trust me with that kind of responsibility?
Arthur: You threw your own body onto marble stone to save my daughter's life without thinking twice about your own safety. I trust you more than anyone else on this earth.
Lily ran over to Elena, wrapping her tiny arms around Elena's leg and smiling up at her with bright, joyful eyes.
Lily: El-na! Play blocks!
Elena bent down, picking up the toddler and holding her close with a warm, loving smile.
Elena: I would love to play blocks with you, sweetheart.
Arthur watched them with a peaceful heart, knowing that the shadow of greed and hatred had finally been lifted from his home forever.
The grand estate was no longer just a cold house built on wealth and power; it was finally a true home filled with love, loyalty, and safety.
