The heavy front doors unlocked and flew open as four armed police officers rushed into the grand foyer, followed closely by two paramedics carrying emergency gear.
Officer Davis: Police! Hands where we can see them! Nobody move!
Arthur: Officers, over here. I am Arthur Vance. The suspect is my wife, Victoria Vance, standing against the staircase.
Officer Davis: Ma'am, keep your hands up and do not make any sudden movements!
Victoria: Officer, thank God you're here! My husband attacked me! He slapped me repeatedly! Look at my face!
Officer Davis: Ma'am, stay where you are!
Arthur: Officer, I used reasonable force to stop a fleeing suspect who just attempted to murder my child. I have the entire incident recorded on my security network.
Arthur handed his phone to Officer Davis, who watched the video clip with an increasingly stern, horrified expression on his face.
Officer Davis: Turn around and put your hands behind your back right now, ma'am.
Victoria: No! You can't arrest me! Do you know who my family is?! My father sits on the state supreme court!
Officer Davis: I don't care if your father is the President, ma'am. You dropped a child off a balcony on camera. Handcuff her!
The second officer stepped forward, pulling Victoria's arms behind her back and clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists with a sharp metallic snap.
Victoria: Ow! You're hurting me! Arthur, tell them to stop!
Arthur: The only place you're going is a cell, Victoria. My lawyers will have the divorce papers and a full restraining order delivered to your holding room before nightfall.
Victoria: You won't get away with this! I'll fight you for every dollar in court!
Officer Davis: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Walk!
The officers dragged Victoria out through the front doors, her high heels dragging uselessly across the stone floor as her pathetic screams faded down the driveway.
Meanwhile, the two paramedics knelt down next to Elena and the toddler, gently examining the child's arms and legs.
Paramedic: What's her name?
Elena: Her name is Lily.
Paramedic: Well, little Lily seems to be in remarkable shape. No broken bones, no signs of head trauma. Thanks to your heroic dive, ma'am, she only has a few light bruises.
Arthur knelt down beside Elena, tears filling his eyes as he took his daughter into his arms, kissing her forehead over and over again.
Arthur: Thank you... God, Elena, thank you. I don't even have the words to repay you for what you did today.
Elena: You don't owe me anything, Mr. Vance. I just couldn't let anything happen to little Lily.
Arthur: You saved my world. Starting today, you aren't our maid anymore, Elena.
Elena looked up, a moment of worry crossing her face.
Elena: Mr. Vance? Am I... am I fired?
Arthur: Fired? Absolutely not. I'm appointing you as Lily's full-time personal guardian and estate manager. You'll have a permanent salary, your own suite in this mansion, and total authority over this home.
Elena stood frozen, her hand covering her mouth as fresh tears of joy spilled over her eyes.
Elena: Mr. Vance... I... I don't know what to say...
Arthur: You don't have to say anything. You protected my family when my own wife tried to destroy it. You belong here as part of this family.
