The Promise At The Party

The Little Girl Found A Secret Pill Inside The Water

The main hall of the Miller family mansion was completely filled with bright natural daylight standard for an afternoon party.

Rich marble floors reflected the warm sunshine coming through the giant glass windows.

A massive American flag hung proudly on the high back wall near the entrance.

Dozens of wealthy guests were chatting quietly while holding crystal glasses in their hands.

Richard Miller sat in the center of the room in his motorized wheelchair.

He used to run a giant real estate corporation across the entire state.

Now he could barely move his legs after a sudden illness hit him months ago.

His five-year-old daughter Lily had blonde pigtails and a bright green summer dress.

She carried a small metallic bowl filled with warm soapy water across the marble floor.

She placed the bowl down carefully right next to her father's resting feet.

Lily: I'll wash your feet, then you'll walk again.

Richard smiled warmly down at his sweet young daughter with deep love in his eyes.

Richard: Our youngest doctor... Maybe she knows something we don't.

The guests around the room chuckled softly at the sweet display of pure childhood faith.

Richard reached down with a trembling hand to stroke his daughter's soft hair.

He felt a sharp wave of sadness because he wanted so badly to stand up and play with her.

His younger brother Marcus stood near the grand staircase with a tight smile on his face.

Marcus had taken over the family business six months ago when Richard grew ill.

Marcus: Let the child play, Richard, but do not exhaust yourself today.

Richard: I am fine, Marcus.

Marcus: The doctor says you need total rest and peace.

Richard sighed softly as he looked down at his useless legs under the blue blanket.

Doctor Evans stepped through the double wooden front doors with a heavy leather briefcase in his left hand.

His white lab coat was spotless and stiff as he walked with firm footsteps across the marble.

Doctor Evans: Good afternoon, everyone.

Marcus: Ah, Doctor Evans, thank you for coming on such short notice.

Doctor Evans: I am always here to check on my most important patient.

Doctor Evans walked over to Richard's wheelchair with an extremely calm expression.

He opened his briefcase with a loud click of the metallic buckles.

He pulled out a small glass bottle filled with dull blue pills from inside the bag.

Doctor Evans: It is time for your afternoon dose, Richard.

Richard: Doctor, those pills make my legs feel like heavy stones every single time.

Doctor Evans: That means the nerve medicine is working deep inside your body.

Lily kept her head down near the metallic bowl as the adults spoke above her.

The water splashed gently as her little fingers rubbed her father's swollen ankles.

She noticed something bright and strange resting right at the bottom of the bowl.

Doctor Evans reached over with a glass of water to hand Richard his regular tablet.

His hand brushed over the edge of Lily's water bowl for a split second.

Lily reached her tiny hand deep into the warm soapy water toward the bottom metal surface.

She felt a small hard object between her fingers and lifted it right out.

Richard: Lily... what did you find?

Lily: The doctor dropped this in your water.
