The Secret In The Trust

Isabella: Security, step back! Nobody touches my sister!

Guard: Miss Vance? Should we call the police?

Isabella: Yes! Call the police immediately!

Evelyn: No! Do not call the police! I order you to stand down!

Isabella: You don't give orders in this building anymore, Mother.

Isabella took off her diamond ring, setting it heavily onto the catering table. She looked at Mia's wet shirt and the red mark on her face.

Isabella: How did you find out about the party tonight, Mia?

Mia: Our father's old attorney, Mr. Harrison, contacted me last month.

Evelyn: Harrison? That old traitor!

Mia: He wasn't a traitor, Evelyn. He was a man with a guilty conscience.

Isabella: What did Mr. Harrison tell you?

Mia: He told me that our father knew the truth before he passed away two years ago.

Evelyn: Arthur didn't know anything! He died believing he had one daughter!

Mia: My father found the hospital payment receipts in your private safe, Evelyn!

Evelyn stumbled back against the grand piano, her face completely drained of color.

Evelyn: That's... that's impossible. I locked those files in the bank vault!

Mia: He found them six months before his heart failed. But he was too sick to fight you in court.

Isabella: So Father knew... Father knew I had a twin sister out there?

Mia: Yes. And before he died, he updated his secret codicil in his primary trust fund.

Evelyn: What codicil? The trust was finalized in 2015!

Mia: He filed a secret amendment with the state supreme court in 2024.

An older gentleman in a dark suit walked into the ballroom, holding a black leather briefcase. It was Mr. Harrison, the senior Vance family attorney.

Mr. Harrison: Good evening, Evelyn. Good evening, Isabella.

Evelyn: Harrison! What are you doing here?! This is a private birthday gala!

Mr. Harrison: I am here as the legal executor of Arthur Vance's estate.

Isabella: Mr. Harrison, is what Mia saying true?

Mr. Harrison: Every word of it, Isabella. Your father hired me two years ago to locate Mia.

Evelyn: You lied to me! You told me Arthur's will was sealed!

Mr. Harrison: It was sealed until tonight. Until Mia turned twenty-eight years old.

Mr. Harrison opened his briefcase and pulled out a thick document stamped with a gold judicial seal.

Mr. Harrison: Under the terms of Arthur Vance's amended trust, the moment Mia presented herself with her birth certificate and the silver pocket watch, all executive control over the Vance Global Corporation transfers to both twin sisters jointly.

Evelyn: That can't be legal! I am the surviving widow!

Mr. Harrison: You are a widow who committed birth fraud, falsification of medical records, and child abandonment, Evelyn.

Isabella: What happens to the forty-million-dollar trust fund now, Mr. Harrison?

Mr. Harrison: It is frozen from Evelyn's accounts immediately. Full ownership belongs fifty percent to you, Isabella, and fifty percent to Mia.

Mia: And Evelyn's monthly allowance from the estate is terminated tonight.

Evelyn: You can't strip my allowance! I built our place in high society!

Isabella: You built it on a lie, Mother. You built it by throwing my sister into poverty!

The ballroom crowd cheered softly, several guests nodding in agreement with Isabella's firm words. Evelyn looked around the room, realizing that every single one of her wealthy socialite friends had turned their backs on her.

Evelyn: Isabella... please. I am your mother. You can't let them do this to me.

Isabella: You stopped being a mother twenty-eight years ago when you put my twin sister in a basket and paid someone to take her away.
