The Disfigured Stranger Ruined My Sister's Million Dollar Wedding

Chloe: Penniless? No! That's my inheritance! That money belongs to the Vance estate!

Evelyn: The Vance estate was built on my mother's money, Chloe. The probate judge officially revoked your power of attorney this morning and returned full control of the entire forty-million-dollar fund to its rightful owner—me.

Chloe: You ruined my life! Look at what you did to my wedding!

Evelyn: You tried to burn me alive for a bank account, sister. Losing a wedding dress is a very soft punishment compared to what you did to my skin.

Arthur: Evelyn... please, my daughter, listen to reason! I'm your father! I raised you! You can't let them take me to a federal holding cell!

Evelyn: You stopped being my father the night you signed that fake death certificate without ever looking for my body. Take them away, Agent.

Federal Agent: Move it out, folks.

The troopers dragged Arthur, Julian, and Chloe down the center aisle. Chloe was sobbing hysterically, her expensive wedding dress trailing through the spilled candle wax and dropped flowers on the floor. Julian kept his head down, trying to hide his face from the dozens of flashing smartphone cameras, while Arthur screamed threats at his legal team over his shoulder.

Chloe: I hate you, Evelyn! I wish you had stayed at the bottom of that river!

Evelyn: I know you do, Chloe. But water couldn't wash me away, and fire couldn't consume me.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind the police officers and the three hand-cuffed criminals. A heavy, profound silence fell over the grand cathedral. The guests remained seated in their pews, staring in awe at the scarred woman standing tall beside the altar. Evelyn turned slowly and looked down at the emerald necklace lying on the velvet cushion where Chloe had dropped it during her arrest.

Groomsman: Miss Vance... I... I am so sorry. None of us knew what they did to you.

Evelyn: Now you know. The party is over, everyone. You can go home.

Evelyn picked up the glittering emerald necklace, holding the cool precious stones in her scarred palm. She unclasped it and fastened it around her own neck, right over the collar of her trench coat. She reached into her pocket, pulled out the red face mask, and tossed it into the nearest burning candle, watching the red fabric burn into dark ash on the marble floor.

Evelyn: I don't need to hide my face anymore. The monsters are finally in their cages.

She turned on her bare, bandaged heel and began walking slowly down the center aisle. Her footsteps no longer sounded weak or hesitant; they echoed through the archways with absolute power and authority. The guests silently parted to make way for her, bowing their heads in respect as the rightful heiress reclaimed her legacy.
