The Paperwork Of Betrayal

The Disfigured Stranger Ruined My Sister's Million Dollar Wedding

Julian: Evelyn, please... let's step into the side office and talk about this privately. We can fix this. We can figure out a settlement!

Evelyn: A settlement? You think you can pay me off for burning my face and stealing my life?

Chloe: You have no proof! You show up here looking like a horror movie monster, throwing wild accusations around! No court in the country will believe a word you say!

Evelyn: I don't need a court to believe my words, Chloe. I brought receipts.

Evelyn reached inside the deep pocket of her tan trench coat and pulled out a thick Manila folder tied with a red ribbon. She unraveled the ribbon with her scarred fingers and tossed the heavy stack of documents right onto the velvet altar cushion, right next to the brass wedding rings.

Evelyn: Take a look at page three, Julian. That's a certified bank statement from the offshore account in the Cayman Islands that you opened forty-eight hours before my accident.

Julian: How... how did you get those records?

Evelyn: The forensic accountant I hired with my late mother's hidden personal savings was very thorough. You transferred two million dollars from my private fund into that account three hours after my car plunged off the cliff.

Chloe: Julian, tell her that's fake! Tell everyone in this church that she fabricated those papers!

Julian: I... I don't... Chloe, you said that money was for the wedding venue deposits!

Chloe: Shut your mouth, you idiot!

Evelyn: And look at page seven, Father. That is a copy of the mechanical report from the state highway patrol. The original report stated that the brake lines were cleanly sliced with an industrial wire cutter. But you paid the local precinct commander fifty thousand dollars to alter the official record to read 'mechanical failure due to rust.'

Arthur: That's absurd! I am an honorable businessman! I have built half this city!

Evelyn: You built an empire on fraudulent bank loans and stolen family trusts! And now every single guest sitting in these pews knows that the wealthy Vance family is nothing more than a ring of desperate criminals!

Groomsman: Dude, is this real? Arthur, did you actually bribe a cop?

Arthur: Sit down, Brad! This is a private family matter!

Chloe: I don't care about those papers! This is my special day! I spent nine months planning this wedding! I bought a fifty-thousand-dollar dress!

Evelyn: You bought that dress with the money from my life insurance policy, Chloe. You are literally wearing the price of my skin.

Chloe gasped, taking a quick step backward as if the silk gown was suddenly burning her skin. She looked out at the rows of guests. People were pulling out their smartphones, recording video of the entire scene at the altar. The flashes from dozens of phone cameras lit up the dim cathedral like strobe lights.

Chloe: Stop recording! Put those phones away right now! Guards, seize those phones!

Guest in Front Row: We're live-streaming this to over fifty thousand people right now, Chloe! The whole city is watching!

Chloe: No! No! Turn them off! Father, do something!

Arthur: Evelyn, please... think about the family name! If this gets out, our stock price will plummet to zero by tomorrow morning!

Evelyn: I don't give a damn about your stock price, Father. You buried me alive. Now it's my turn to return the favor.

Julian: Evelyn... I loved you! You know I loved you before all this happened! Chloe manipulated me! She told me you were cheating on me!

Chloe: You lying snake! You came to me first! You wanted my father's corporate backing for your hedge fund!

Evelyn: Look at you two. Fighting like rats in a sinking ship before the water even reaches your ankles.
