The Downfall of Evelyn

Evelyn: "Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! I am Evelyn Sterling!"

Security Guard 1: "Sir, step toward the door quietly, or we will hand you over to the Dallas police department right outside."

Evelyn: "Clara, you witch! You set me up!"

Clara: "You set yourself up, Evelyn. Your greed made you stupid, and your cruelty made you blind."

Detective Vance: "Evelyn Sterling?"

The main doors of the mansion pushed open, and two plainclothes detectives stepped into the ballroom, holding federal arrest warrants.

Evelyn: "What is this?! What are police doing at my family gala?!"

Detective Vance: "We have a warrant for your arrest on charges of wire fraud, embezzlement of corporate funds, and filing false documents regarding the Thomas Sterling estate."

Evelyn: "This is a mistake! My lawyers will have you fired!"

Detective Vance: "Your lawyers are the ones who turned over the Nassau banking records half an hour ago under a federal subpoena."

The crowd parted as the detectives walked forward, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around Evelyn's wrists right in front of the entire Dallas high-society elite.

Guest 1: "Look at him... going out in handcuffs from his own ballroom."

Guest 2: "Serves him right for treating that poor little girl like that."

Evelyn: "Mother! Tell them to stop! Pay their bail! Use the trust fund!"

Grandmother Beatrice: "The trust fund is frozen, Evelyn. You brought this shame upon yourself."

Evelyn: "Clara! Please! Don't press charges for assault! I'll give up my shares!"

Clara: "You don't have any shares left to give, Evelyn. Everything you owned was bought with stolen money."

The officers turned Evelyn around and pushed him toward the grand entrance. He screamed curses and pleas all the way down the marble driveway until the heavy oak doors shut behind him, sealing his fate forever.

Grandmother Beatrice: "Clara... my dear child."

Beatrice stepped up to Clara, her hands trembling as she took Clara's hands into her own.

Grandmother Beatrice: "Can you ever forgive an old woman for being blind to my son's evil?"

Clara: "You didn't know, Beatrice. But now you do."

Grandmother Beatrice: "I want to fix this. Tonight."

Beatrice turned toward the room full of board members, clearing her throat to deliver an announcement that would change the Sterling family history forever.
