The Truth Takes Control

Liam: Your defense attorney isn't going to save you from video footage and a glass full of evidence, Arthur.

Police Officer: Nobody move! Step away from the head table!

Two uniformed police officers pushed open the heavy oak doors of the ballroom, their eyes scanning the dramatic scene inside.

Liam: Officer, over here. My name is Liam Davis. This is my former fiancée, Vanessa.

Police Officer: What seems to be the problem here, sir? We got a call about an attempted poisoning.

Liam: She placed a dissolved chemical pill into my water glass to force me into signing estate and financial transfer documents under the influence.

Vanessa: It's a misunderstanding, officer! It was just a harmless prank!

Police Officer: Ma'am, stay right where you are. Do not step toward that table.

Clara: Officer, I have high-definition video of her putting the pill in the glass, along with full audio of her admitting to the crime just two minutes ago.

Police Officer: Is that true, miss? Let me see the phone recording.

Clara stepped forward, holding out her phone screen for the lead officer to review. The officer watched the video intently, his jaw tightening as the clip played through.

Police Officer: That's clear as day. Secure that glass as evidence immediately! Call the forensic team to collect the liquid sample.

Vanessa: You can't arrest me on my wedding day! This is illegal!

Police Officer: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, ma'am. You have the right to remain silent.

The metallic click of handcuffs echoed clearly across the silent room. Vanessa let out a loud scream as the officer secured her wrists behind her white lace gown.

Vanessa: Liam! Help me! Tell them to stop! You loved me!

Liam: I loved the person I thought you were. But that person never existed.

Vanessa's Father: We will sue this entire establishment! We will file a lawsuit against everyone in this room!

Police Officer: Sir, step back or you'll be arrested for obstruction of justice. Move out of the way!

The officers escorted a weeping, hysterical Vanessa out through the center aisle, past two hundred stunned wedding guests who watched in complete silence.

Liam: Clara... thank you. If it wasn't for you, I would be in a hospital bed right now, or worse.

Clara: I'll always protect you, Liam. Always.

Liam took Clara's hand, looking down at the ruined, wet dress she wore. He smiled softly, a look of immense relief spreading across his face as the nightmare finally came to an end.
