Confrontation At The Grand Table

Liam: Why did you do this to me?! I loved you! I gave you everything you ever asked for!

Vanessa: You never loved me, Liam! You loved the idea of a perfect wife to show off to your corporate board members!

Liam: I bought you a home, I paid off your credit debt, and I gave you a three-carat ring! How can you say I didn't love you?!

Vanessa: Because it was never enough to save my family from bankruptcy! We were facing foreclosure next month!

Liam: So your solution was to murder me or render me brain-damaged with illegal substances?!

Vanessa: It wasn't supposed to damage your brain! The seller told me it would just make you confused for a few hours!

Guest 1: She bought it from an illegal seller! Did she just admit that out loud?!

Guest 2: Unbelievable! She completely destroyed her own life in three minutes!

Liam took a deep breath, turning his back on Vanessa as he walked over to Clara. He took a white linen napkin from the table and gently offered it to her.

Liam: Here... wipe your face. I am so sorry, Clara. I am so deeply sorry I didn't listen to you earlier.

Clara: It's okay, Liam. I'm just glad you didn't drink from that glass.

Liam: When you tried to warn me outside, I thought you were just upset about the past... I was such a fool.

Clara: I would never let anyone harm you. You know that.

Vanessa watched them standing close together, her eyes flashing with pure rage despite her ruined makeup.

Vanessa: Look at you two! You were scheming together this whole time, weren't you?! You wanted to steal my place!

Liam: Shut your mouth, Vanessa! Clara saved my life while you tried to destroy it for a bank payout!

Vanessa: She's in love with you, Liam! Can't you see that?! She tracked me down because she wanted to stop this wedding from day one!

Clara: I tracked you down because I saw you meeting a shady stranger behind the hotel yesterday morning! I knew something was wrong!

Liam: You saw her buying the drops yesterday?

Clara: Yes! I saw cash exchange hands in the alley behind the valet station. That's why I followed her today with my camera ready.

The sound of loud police sirens echoed outside the tall ballroom windows, growing closer with every second.

Vanessa: Oh god... they're really here. Dad, do something!

Vanessa's Father: Quiet, Vanessa! Don't say another word until our defense attorney arrives!
