Sarah: I missed seven years of your life... I can never get those years back, Toby.
Toby: We have all the time in the world now, Mom. And Leo needs us both.
Dr. Evans stepped over to the incubator, carefully lifting baby Leo out from the plastic box and wrapping him in a warm, clean blue blanket.
Dr. Evans: Mrs. Miller... I've been a pediatrician for twenty-five years, and I have never seen a recovery like this. His heart rhythm is completely normal now.
Sarah: Is he going to be okay to come home soon?
Dr. Evans: Physically, he's showing no signs of distress at all. We'll keep him under observation for forty-eight hours, but I fully expect to discharge him by Friday.
Sarah took baby Leo into her arms, holding him tightly against her chest as she sat down in the rocking chair by the window.
Toby walked over and sat on the armrest next to her, gently stroking his tiny brother's head.
Toby: He's soft.
Sarah: He looks just like you did when you were born, Toby. Exactly the same.
Toby: Are we really going to live at Grandma's farm?
Sarah: Yes, sweetie. We're going to pack up our things, sell the house in the city, and start over where no one can ever hurt us again.
Toby: What about the police? Will Dad come back?
Sarah: No, Toby. With the evidence your grandmother kept, your father is going to prison for a very long time. He will never touch either of you ever again.
A soft knock came at the door, and a female police detective stepped inside holding a small notepad.
Detective Vance: Mrs. Miller? I'm Detective Vance. We have Mark Miller in custody downstairs. The state prosecutor has already reviewed the audio recording and the legal surrender documents from seven years ago.
Sarah: Will he be granted bail?
Detective Vance: Given the severity of the felony insurance fraud charges and the evidence of physical assault, the judge has denied bail. He will remain in county jail until his trial.
Sarah: Thank you, Detective. That's a relief.
Detective Vance: I also spoke with the child welfare department. Because your late mother-in-law held legal guardianship of Toby, and she designated you as his successor guardian in her estate trust, Toby's legal custody is immediately transferred back to you.
Sarah's eyes filled with fresh tears, but this time they were tears of pure joy and relief.
Sarah: He's coming home with me today?
Detective Vance: He never should have been taken from you in the first place, ma'am. He's officially back in your care.
