The bright morning sun streamed through the massive double-height windows of the Vance family estate. Polish white marble stretched across the grand foyer, reflecting the warm daylight like a mirror. Near the base of the massive sweeping staircase, a large American flag hung quietly against the wall, adding a feeling of high authority to the historical mansion. But the quiet beauty of the morning was shattered by the sharp sound of clicking high heels and cruel shouting.
Chloe: Why is this wheelchair blocking the hallway again?
Chloe Montgomery paced back and forth across the white marble floor, her glittering gold dress catching the bright sunlight with every sudden step. She was engaged to marry Julian Vance, the CEO of Vance Global, and she already acted like she owned every inch of the vast property. She glared down at Mrs. Evelyn Gable, Julian's frail grandmother, who was sitting quietly in her wheelchair near the foot of the stairs.
Evelyn: I was just waiting for Maya to bring my morning tea, Chloe. I am not in your way.
Chloe: You are always in my way! This estate is supposed to host high-society guests tonight, not look like a nursing home facility!
Evelyn: This is my family home, child. My late husband built these walls fifty years ago.
Chloe: Your husband is dead, and your time here is done! You are taking up space that belongs to me!
Chloe reached down with violent force and grabbed the hand-carved wooden walking cane that rested against the arm of the wheelchair. Mrs. Gable gasped in total shock as the heavy wood was yanked out of her frail fingers. Without the support of her cane, the elderly woman lost her balance and leaned dangerously to the side, her hands shaking uncontrollably as she tried to catch herself on the metal frame.
Evelyn: Please, Chloe, don't! I can't support my weight without it!
Chloe: Give that to me, you old parasite! You don't need this in my home!
Evelyn: My hands are so weak today... please give it back to me!
Chloe: I don't care! You are a burden on this family, and I am sick of looking at you!
Chloe stood over the helpless woman, holding the antique cane high above her head like a trophy. She laughed with cold contempt, enjoying the moment of complete power over the helpless grandmother. But before she could turn around and throw the cane into the decorative fireplace, rapid footsteps rushed down the long corridor toward the main foyer.
Maya, a twenty-four-year-old housekeeper wearing a neat gray uniform, rushed into the open hall. She held a silver tray with hot tea, but the moment she saw Mrs. Gable slumping in her chair, she set the tray down on a side table and ran straight into the middle of the conflict. Her face was flushed with anger, her eyes fixed entirely on the gold-dressed woman abusing the elderly lady.
Maya: Give that cane back! She needs it!
Chloe: Get your filthy hands off me, you useless servant!
Maya: Touch her again and you'll regret it for the rest of your life!
Maya stepped directly between Chloe and the wheelchair, using her own body as a firm wall to shield Mrs. Gable from further harm. She grabbed the middle of the wooden cane with both hands, refusing to back down even as Chloe pulled back with all her physical strength. The tension inside the wide marble foyer rose to a boiling point under the bright morning sun.
