Handcuffs On The Marble

The officers turned Victoria around, guiding her across the light marble floor toward the open front entrance. High-society guests pulled out their smartphones, capturing every second of her downfall on video as flashbulbs exploded continuously through the glass doors.

Guest A: Look at the socialite in handcuffs!

Guest B: She stole a baby from a county clinic to get sixty percent of the Sterling trust!

Victoria: Stop filming me! Put those cameras away right now!

Victoria thrashed wildly against the officers' grip, trying desperately to cover her bruised, tear-stained face, but the photographers captured every second of her rumpled dress, messy hair, and utter humiliation.

Officer Davis pushed her head down gently, guiding her into the back seat of the lead police cruiser parked in the long driveway. The heavy metal door slammed shut with a sharp thud, cutting off her shrill shouting once and for all.

Inside the sunlit foyer, silence returned, warm and peaceful under the bright daylight. David walked over to Clara and little Lily, dropping to his knees beside them on the polished stone floor.

David: Clara... I don't even know how to begin asking for your forgiveness. My family put you through a living nightmare for four long years.

Clara: You didn't know, David. You brought the truth to light the moment you found those papers.

David: Starting today, Clara, you and Lily are moving into the master estate wing. You are never wearing a waitress uniform or hiding in the shadows again.

Lily: Does this mean Mommy gets to live with us forever, Daddy David?

David: Yes, sweetheart. Your mommy is taking her rightful place as head of this family's estate foundation.

Clara looked down at her daughter, who was smiling brightly as she wiped the last tear from her cheek, holding Clara's hand tight.

Clara: Thank you, David. Thank you for protecting my child when I couldn't be there.

David: She's my niece, Clara. She's a Sterling. Protecting her is the greatest privilege of my life.

Our chief estate attorney, Mr. Harrison, walked into the foyer carrying a thick leather binder containing official state transfer papers.

Mr. Harrison: CEO Sterling, Mrs. Vance, the probate court has officially finalized the restoration of all parental rights to Clara Vance. The sixty percent trust fund share is officially secured under Lily's name.

David: Excellent work, Harrison. Please have the estate staff prepare the sunroom for a family lunch.

Mr. Harrison: Right away, sir.
