The Forged Adoption Papers

Victoria: David! Please! Think about our family's reputation! Think about the corporate board meeting tomorrow!

David: The corporate board reviewed the forensic audit three hours ago, Victoria. They voted unanimously to remove you from all executive committees.

Victoria: You can't remove me! My father owns thirty percent of the voting stock in Sterling Global!

David: Your father was arrested at his New York penthouse at eight o'clock this morning for wire fraud and child trafficking conspiracy, Victoria.

Victoria's jaw dropped open. Her knees buckled once more, and she stumbled against the marble pillar, clutching her silk dress as sweat broke out across her forehead.

Victoria: My... my father was arrested?

David: He confessed to paying off the St. Jude clinic director fifty thousand dollars to hide Clara's medical records four years ago.

Clara: They took my daughter thirty minutes after she was born and told me she didn't survive delivery, David!

David: I know, Clara. And they used my late brother's name to claim the sixty percent trust fund share reserved for his biological heir.

Heavy double doors chimed at the front entrance, and Detective Vance walked into the grand marble hall, flanked by three uniformed police officers.

Detective Vance: Mr. Sterling, we have the state execution warrant for Victoria Vance.

Victoria: Detective! Listen to me! This is a private domestic misunderstanding regarding an estate inheritance!

Detective Vance: We didn't receive a call for a domestic misunderstanding, ma'am. We received live high-definition security camera footage from your foyer showing you physically assault a four-year-old child on camera.

Detective Vance held up a digital patrol tablet, displaying crystal-clear footage of Victoria storming under the American flag, grabbing Lily's arm, and slapping her hard across the face.

Detective Vance: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for felony child abuse, grand forgery, human trafficking conspiracy, and evidence tampering.

Victoria: Get those cuffs away from me! You can't touch me in my own foyer!

Detective Vance: Officers, secure the suspect.

The two uniformed officers stepped forward, pulling Victoria's arms behind her silk designer dress. The sharp, metallic click of steel handcuffs echoed clearly off the polished white walls.

Victoria: David! Tell them to stop! Tell them we can make a private settlement!

David: You slapped my brother's child in front of my own eyes, Victoria. The only place you're making a settlement is in a state penitentiary.

Victoria: Clara, you miserable little waitress! You ruined my life!

Clara: You ruined your own life four years ago when you decided a baby was just a ticket to an estate trust fund, Victoria.
