A Mother's True Heart

Vanessa: You ruined my life, Ethan! You ruined my life!

Detective Ross: Save it for the judge, lady. Let's move.

The officers dragged the screaming, hysterical woman out through the double doors, her designer heels scraping uselessly against the hardwood oak floor. The police cruiser doors slammed shut outside, and the sirens gradually faded down the long estate avenue.

The grand hall finally returned to a peaceful, warm quiet. The morning sun continued to shine brightly through the high arched windows, illuminating the pristine room.

Ethan: Clara...

Clara: Yes, Mr. Vance?

Ethan walked over to the brave young woman who was still standing by the wall, wiping away the remaining tears from her bruised cheek.

Ethan: You stood up to a cruel woman to protect my son. You took a blow to the face for a child that wasn't even yours.

Clara: Every child deserves to be protected, sir. I couldn't just stand there and watch him get hurt, no matter what happened to me.

Ethan: Most people in your position would have stayed silent out of fear of losing their job. You showed more courage and motherly love than his own stepmother ever did.

Clara: I love little Toby, sir. He's such a sweet, innocent boy.

Ethan: Effective immediately, you are no longer a house maid in this mansion.

Clara's face turned pale, her eyes widening in sudden panic.

Clara: Mr. Vance... please don't fire me! I need this job to pay for my mother's medical treatments!

Ethan: I'm not firing you, Clara. I am promoting you. As of today, you are Toby's head nanny and the primary estate manager. Your salary will be quadrupled, and my corporate legal team will cover all of your mother's medical bills in full.

Clara gasped, covering her mouth with both hands as fresh tears of joy welled up in her eyes.

Clara: Quadrupled? Mr. Vance... I... I don't know what to say!

Ethan: You don't have to say anything. You saved my son's life today. A hundred million dollars wouldn't be enough to repay you for what you did.

Toby reached out his tiny, chubby hand from Ethan's arms, grabbing onto Clara's finger and giggling softly for the first time all morning.

Clara: Look at him... he's smiling, Mr. Vance.

Ethan: He knows who his real guardian angel is.
