Justice In The Mansion

My Son Saved Me From My Mother's Venomous Secret

Arthur stood alone near the center of the room, looking down at the smashed cake on the white countertop.

He pulled a white linen napkin from the table, carefully wrapped the broken dessert and the insect inside it, and placed it inside a clear plastic storage bag from the sideboard.

A few moments later, Sarah softly walked back into the dining room, her hands still trembling slightly.

Sarah: Is she... is she really gone, Mr. Vance?

Arthur: Security is holding her in the guest wing until Detective Miller arrives. How is Jamie doing?

Sarah: He's still shaken up, sir. But he's resting on his bed. He kept asking if you were okay.

Arthur: I'm going to go see him right now. Sarah... I want to thank you.

Sarah: You don't have to thank me, Mr. Vance. I couldn't sit by and let her hurt you or terrify that little boy.

Arthur: Most people in your position would have stayed silent out of fear of losing their job.

Sarah: I care about this family, sir. About you and Jamie. Mrs. Vance has been cruel to the household staff for years, but what she tried to do today was pure evil.

Arthur: You saved my life today, Sarah. And you stood up for my son when he needed support the most.

Sarah: Jamie is a brave young man. He didn't hesitate for a second when he saw you pick up that plate.

Arthur: Starting today, your salary is doubled. And I am appointing you as the manager of the entire household estate staff.

Sarah: Mr. Vance... that's too much! I was just doing what was right!

Arthur: It isn't nearly enough for what you did. You showed more real loyalty to this family than my own mother ever did.

Sarah wiped a small tear from her eye and nodded respectfully.

Sarah: Thank you, sir. I will make sure everything in this house is managed with honesty from now on.

Arthur: Please have the catering team clear the rest of the dessert table. I don't want anything touched until the police take photos of this sample.

Sarah: I'll take care of it immediately, sir.

Arthur turned and walked up the grand staircase toward his son's bedroom.

He gently pushed open the white door and saw Jamie sitting on the edge of the bed, holding his favorite stuffed animal tight against his chest.

Arthur: Hey, buddy.

Jamie: Dad! Are you okay? Did you swallow any of it?

Arthur: I didn't swallow a single bite, Jamie. Thanks to you, I'm completely fine.

Arthur walked over, sat down on the edge of the mattress, and pulled his son into a tight, warm embrace.

Jamie: Is Grandma angry at me?

Arthur: It doesn't matter if she's angry, Jamie. What you did today took incredible courage. You protected your dad, and I am so proud of you.

Jamie: She said I was a bad boy for watching her in the kitchen.

Arthur: You are the best boy in the world. And Grandma is going away for a very long time so she can never scare you or hurt anyone ever again.

Jamie: She won't come back here?

Arthur: Never. This house is our home, Jamie. Just you and me, and people who truly care about us.

Jamie let out a deep sigh of relief, resting his head against his father's chest as the tension finally left his small body.

Downstairs, the front doorbell rang as the board members and local police officers arrived at the estate entrance, marking the absolute end of Evelyn Vance's reign over the family legacy, and the beginning of a safe, honest future for Arthur and his brave young son.
