Arthur: Mother? What is Jamie talking about?
Evelyn: The boy is letting his imagination run wild, Arthur. Don't be ridiculous.
Arthur: He said you put that creature inside the cake. Is that true?
Evelyn: Why on earth would I do something so revolting in my own son's mansion?
Sarah: Because you didn't think anyone was watching you in the pantry, Mrs. Vance.
Evelyn: Hold your tongue, Sarah! You are a paid servant in this house! You do not address me like that!
Arthur: Stand back, Mother. Sarah, tell me exactly what you saw.
Sarah: I was resting in the kitchen alcove ten minutes ago, Mr. Vance. I saw your mother open the bakery box that arrived for the party.
Evelyn: I was simply inspecting the catering order!
Sarah: You had a small glass jar in your hand, ma'am. I watched you cut open the bottom of that specific cupcake and insert something inside before smoothing the frosting back over.
Jamie: I saw it too, Dad! I was sitting under the breakfast bar playing with my toy cars!
Evelyn: The child is lying! Sarah is influencing him because she wants to protect her job after letting a dirty bug into the kitchen!
Arthur: Jamie has never lied to me in his life, Mother. But you... you've been acting distant ever since the probate attorney visited last week.
Evelyn: My behavior has nothing to do with this absurd accusation! You are taking the word of a nanny and an eight-year-old over your own mother?
Arthur: Look at the cake, Mother! That wasn't just a bug that crawled in by accident. The center was hollowed out!
Evelyn: It's a mistake from the bakery! I will call the manager immediately and have them fired!
Arthur: Stop moving, Mother. Don't come any closer to my son.
Evelyn: Arthur, you are making a massive scene in front of the staff. The board members will be here for the trust fund meeting in less than an hour!
Arthur: Is that what this is about? The family trust fund?
Evelyn: Don't be foolish. I care about our family's public standing.
Arthur: You knew I have a severe phobia and an extreme allergy to insect venom since I was a child. If I had swallowed that, my airway would have closed up instantly!
Evelyn: It was a harmless trick! A joke to scare you into paying attention to your health!
Arthur: A joke? You tried to cause a medical emergency right before I signed the new estate papers!
Jamie: Dad, I'm scared. She told me if I said anything, she would send me away to boarding school.
Arthur: What did you say to my son?
Evelyn: I told him to mind his business! A child shouldn't interfere in adult affairs!
Arthur: He saved my life, Mother! And you threatened him!
Evelyn: I gave you life, Arthur! Everything in this luxury house, every piece of stock in Vance Enterprises, exists because of your father and me!
Arthur: And my father left full control of the estate to me when he passed. That's what really bothers you, isn't it?
Evelyn: He was out of his mind when he signed that will! He should have left the primary voting rights to me!
Arthur: So you wanted to incapacitate me today so you could claim emergency power of attorney during the board vote!
Evelyn: You are ungrateful! I raised you to lead this company!
Arthur: Sarah, take Jamie up to his room right now and lock the door.
Sarah: Right away, Mr. Vance. Come along, Jamie.
Jamie: Dad, don't eat anything else on the table!
Arthur: I won't, buddy. Go with Sarah. I'm taking care of this right now.
Arthur stood tall, shielding his boy as Sarah led him up the grand marble staircase, leaving Arthur standing face-to-face with his mother in the bright, quiet room.
Arthur: Call security.
Evelyn: You wouldn't dare call security on your own mother!
Arthur: Watch me.
