The Truth Unravels Fast

His Sister Smashed The Birthday Cake To Save His Life

Red and blue lights flashed brightly against the high glass windows of the living room as emergency vehicles pulled up outside. The front door clicked open and three armed police officers stepped into the foyer, led by a senior detective holding a notepad. The room fell into total silence as the officers observed the blue-tinted cake on the damaged floor, the glass vial in Jason's hand, and Chloe sobbing near the fireplace mantle.

Officer: We received a report of an attempted poisoning at this address. Is everyone okay here?

Jason: We are safe, officer. My sister stopped her before she could poison me with this chemical bottle.

Lily: I have complete video footage of her pouring this exact bottle into the cake batter twenty minutes ago.

Chloe: Officer, they forced me into this room! They searched my private purse without my permission!

Officer: Ma'am, stay right where you are. We will handle the investigation.

The detective stepped closer to the floor where the cake lay smashed across the oak boards. He bent down slightly, noticing the bubbling blue frosting and the harsh chemical smell still hanging in the air. He pulled a small pair of rubber gloves from his belt and carefully picked up the brown glass vial from the mahogany table, inspecting the red hazard label on the back.

Detective: This is a restricted industrial solvent. It is strictly illegal to own without a commercial license.

Lily: She bought it online using her father's company account. I tracked the shipping invoice this morning!

Chloe: That's a lie! I never ordered that chemical! Someone else used my father's login info!

Detective: Ma'am, you'll have plenty of time to explain your side at the police station. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.

Chloe: No! You can't arrest me! I'm the victim of a setup!

Jason: Stop lying, Chloe. It's over. The whole room watched you confess two minutes ago.

Chloe: Jason, tell them to stop! You can't let them take me to jail!

Jason: You belong in jail for what you tried to do to me today.

The officer pulled Chloe's arms behind her back and clicked metal handcuffs around her wrists. Chloe screamed and kicked her feet as she was led toward the front door, her voice echoing through the long hallway until the heavy entrance doors slammed shut behind her. A wave of relief washed over the remaining guests, though the tension in the room remained high as the reality of the situation sank in for everyone present.

Lily: Are you okay, Jason?

Jason: I... I don't know, Lily. My head is spinning right now.

Lily: I know it hurts, big brother. But you're safe now. That's all that matters to me.

Jason: How did you figure this out before it was too late?

Lily: I noticed her acting strange last night when she asked about your life insurance policy. So I decided to watch her closely today.

Jason: You saved my life, Lily. If you hadn't smashed that cake, I would have eaten it without a second thought.

Lily: I would smash a thousand cakes if it kept you safe, Jason.

Jason pulled his younger sister into a tight hug as tears filled his eyes. The party guests quietly began to leave the mansion, offering warm words of comfort and support as they passed by the front door. The police evidence team entered the room with sample kits to gather the ruined cake off the floor and document the damaged hardwood finish. Jason looked around his home, realizing how close he had come to losing everything he owned.
