Daniel: Rachel, please wait! Let's talk about this at home!
Rachel grabbed the torn papers right out of his hand before he could drop them.
Rachel: You will regret this day for the rest of your life!
Daniel: I made a mistake! I will never see her again, I swear to God!
Rachel: It is far too late for your lies, Daniel.
Rachel pulled a second duplicate set of the divorce papers from her leather bag, showing him that she came fully prepared for any trick he might pull. She put the signed half into her folder alongside the fresh copy. The bright airport daylight shone down on them, casting long shadows across the polished floor. The surrounding travelers whispered among themselves, pointing their fingers at Daniel as he stood there in his golden jacket looking completely defeated. His ex-wife was now boarding the plane with her kids, not looking back at him even once. Daniel had lost his past family and his present life all in a single ten-minute window under the airport lights.
Rachel took a step closer to him, her voice dropping into a low, terrifying tone that made his skin crawl. She reminded him that every dollar he used to buy his gold jacket and pay for those airline tickets came from their joint bank account. She had already contacted her family divorce lawyer before driving to the terminal, and a temporary freezing order was placed on all joint bank accounts, credit cards, and investment funds just five minutes ago. Daniel quickly pulled out his leather wallet and checked his phone app, only to see red notification banners flashing across his screen showing that his cards were declined. The reality of his complete financial downfall hit him instantly, causing his knees to buckle slightly beneath his weight.
Daniel: How could you freeze my credit cards? I need to pay for my hotel!
Rachel: You can sleep on the floor of your hospital office like you promised me.
Daniel: Rachel, please! How am I supposed to live like this?
Rachel: You can live with the choices you made today.
Daniel reached out his hand to touch her arm, but Rachel stepped back with total disgust in her eyes. The surrounding crowd cheered quietly as they watched the courageous woman stand up for herself against her cheating husband. Daniel looked around the large terminal, feeling smaller and more humiliated than he had ever felt in his entire adult life. He realized that his fake prestige, his expensive cars, and his comfortable lifestyle were all tied to the woman standing in front of him. Without her, he was just a man drowning in debt with a ruined reputation that no hospital board would ever respect again.
